Judge's Handbook

How to work with the Judge controls

This page will outline the features you have access to as Judge and Competition Organiser, and how to appropriatley use them.

As a Judge, you will notice when joining the Olympic Ice Skating Rink a set of buttons on your screen. It should look like this: (without the arrows, those are to help us explain things)

Lighting and Music

As a judge, everyone can see what you set the lights to. When it is a team or player’s turn to perform in a competition, you should change the lights to whatever they ask. If they do not choose, you can choose a generic light set.

As we saw above, there is a button for ‘MUSIC’ along with 3 smaller buttons.
Clicking the 3 smaller buttons will not do anything unless you already have selected a music track.

To select a song or track, click on the ‘MUSIC’ button.
You can browse through tracks by genre, and you can sample the songs to see if you want to play it. Only you can hear song samples.

When you have a track that you want, or that a skater has asked you to play, click the green tick next to the sample play button. This sends the music to the top bar controls.

Whenever you change the music track, you should click the ‘:rewind:’ button. This brings the music back to the start of the track and double checks the settings.
You can also use this any time you want to re-start a song.

Clicking the ‘:arrow_forward:’ button will play the music. Everyone will be able to hear this.
If a player is practicing a solo, you should wait until they are ready before clicking play.
Clicking the ‘:pause_button:’ button will pause the music.
Be sure not to annoy skaters by strobing these lights, or chanigng them during =

Rink Controls & Medals

The panel on the left of your screen contains a few buttons and boxes. Let’s get into it -

"Notepad" brings up a notepad on your screen. Only you can see it. You do not have to use this, but it can be useful for keeping scores and notes until scoring.

"Close Gate" will close and open the gate accoringly. If you are allowing some practice or warmup time, please leave the gate open until competition begins. When you leave the server, it is best to open the gate before leaving, otherwise visiting skaters might be locked out of the rink until another judge opens it.

"Reset Rink" will -

  • Reset the lights to the default color
  • Teleport all players to the audience stands
  • Close Gate
This is useful if you need to get all players off the ice.

"Podium" - The Podium and frame above it will be discussed in the next dropdown, as they are more complex -

When you give a medal, you should add the podium, by clicking the ‘Podium’ button. If you don’t, the player will still recieve a medal, but will just stand on the ice.

To give a player a gold, silver or bronze medal, use the light blue text box (blue arrow points to it) and enter one of the following commands.

/gold player – Gives player a gold medal
/silver player – Gives player a silver medal
/bronze player – Gives player a bronze medal
When you have typed out the command and the player’s username (Example: /silver iceskaterlove2) click the green GO button. This does the command.

Click the podium button again to remove the podium.

You need to use the player’s username, not their display name. For example, while someone’s name might show up as ‘Lexi’ on the leaderboard, clicking the name might show their actual name. ‘Lexi23941’.

Here are some othe commands;

/rink Lexi23941 – teleports a player to the ice rink
/stands Lexi23941 – Teleports the player to the audience
/goto Lexi23941 – Brings you to the player
/find Lexi23941 – Brings the player to you

Group Controls

You will be able to use the group shout as a Judge. If you abuse or overuse this, you might be demoted. It should only be used when announcing a competition. All other times, please use the group chat. It is better to format your group shouts like this example;

“Solo skating comp in the Competition Center - 3:00 GMT”

Include the type of competition - (Solo, pairs, show skating, etc.) and the time, with a time zone. Not all players are in the same area, so remember to include a timezone so players can convert it to their time.

Additionally, you could say things like ‘In one hour’ or ‘in 30 minutes.’

Try your best to be on time. You don’t have to schedule competitons by any amount, do it when it suits you best and you know you’ll be avaliable.

You should be unbiased and fair as a judge. You cannot give medals to yourself, but other judges can give you medals. We keep a log of this, and if we notice suspicious activity (such as judges giving each other lots of medals) we will know and you may be demoted. You should only give other judges medals if they are competing as a skater, and if they were the best/2nd/3rd best skater in the group.
