Keeping Gamepass sales private

I think publicly displaying our game pass sales should be kept private and only visible to the developer. By keeping sales private this would keep spiteful jealous players quiet, and prevent everyone knowing how much money we make off these passes. What do you guys think?

But the sales show a gamepasses’ popularity which helps others choose whether to buy them or not.

I think ROBLOX did this so that less-successful game developers could look at successful games and see what works and what doesn’t – I’ve seen a couple people mention doing that and their game doing better as a result. Honestly though, game passes are obsolete, and the only update ROBLOX will make to them will be removing them – use developer products instead. The purchase is completely managed by you and the purchases aren’t displayed to anyone.

Edit: (and what Ripull said)

What I think:

  • Not everyone is jealous
  • No necessary in keeping them public or private, but if it being public is actually causing problems then I’d make them private.

I think they’re public so they attract more game pass sales. People do what their friends are doing/what other people are doing. (my personal thought) And because them being public has this benefit, there is a reason for them to be public; reason being so it attracts more sales. So because of this and because of you and others similar that think being private would be more beneficial, there should be a toggle.

Ultimately I wouldn’t worry much in actually changing their visibility, whether a toggle happens or doesn’t happens I don’t mind, just answering your question.

I think a simple toggle would be the best solution. That way you can choose whether or not showing sales is a good idea if you think it influences people buying the game pass. I just feel like it’s no ones business how much money we make.

Unlike developer products - game passes display on the game’s webpage. The main key to successful marketing is to get what your selling in the player’s face to the point where they desire it. Game passes are also easier to manage for the majority of developers.

I say no. I like seeing how many sales I get while (if ever) banned.

Every asset does this. Shirts, models, hats, gear, paid access games, plugins, everything. It would be weird to make a rule only for game passes.

Gamepasses are awesome, they make me the most money. No reason to use developer products in instances when gamepasses make more sense.

You’re doing something very wrong with monetizing your game then. Consumables are many times more profitable than single purchases.

No Im not, every game is different. Are you expecting to make arsthetic customizations temporary purchases? If theres anything permanent I want to sell, it should be done through gamepass, not shoehorned with developer products. Dont give me crap because my game works without your ideologies.

It’s not a matter of ideologies. Developer products were made to replace gamepasses, but on multiple threads you’ve repeatedly insisted that the older gamepasses are better for your game under the grounds that “I haven’t even tried out developer products in my game but gamepasses work well so I assume developer products won’t”.

Small data sets are not enough information to make determinations one way or another. That data could be the result of 90% of your available products being gamepasses and only 10% being developer products (in which case of course you’re going to have more gamepass sales since there are more gamepasses than developer products), developer products not being implemented as well as they could in your game, and various other factors.

The only reliable information regarding developer products vs gamepasses is on the broad scale and across multiple top-grossing games (not just a few). This information is not made available to us, so normally I wouldn’t be jumping to any sort of conclusions, but given that ROBLOX wants to sunset gamepasses in favor of developer products (and ROBLOX doesn’t make decisions lightly), developer products obviously are doing as well as, if not better than, gamepasses in a general sense – ROBLOX wouldn’t nuke their income by replacing a method of sale with something less profitable.

No, single-purchases work just as well as consumables, but someone who abstains entirely from consumables by shying away from developer products is missing out on a lot of revenue (imagine if BC was a one-time purchase).

Your single-purchase gamepasses are marketed amazingly, but who’s to say that you wouldn’t be 2x in the lead of where you are now if you changed how developer products were placed in your game (because by the sounds of it they’re not very profitable for you at the moment)?

For instance, 5 ROBUX to vote on the next map every round could yield significant chunks of revenue given its frequency and low price. You probably also don’t get a lot of revenue from your “get currency” developer products because all of your consumables (crates) are purchased with currency that can be earned just by playing. If you introduced some crates that could only be purchased with gems you’d likely see a drastic boost in gem purchases.

Gamepasses are not outdated. They function as reliable and easy one time developer products that show up on the website. That is very valuable. There ARE some things that are permanent, and theres no reason to use developer products for that. My game sells consumables, but people dont want them nearly as much as the permanent things, and it makes sense to use gamepasses for that.
