Lack of Context on IP Infringement and Moderation Reason

This section of the bug report was made by @real_borgor, who is a Devforum Member that does not yet have access to creating bug reports and will respond with further details of the issue.

I am submitting a report regarding the termination of my Roblox account and the ongoing confusion surrounding the reasons provided for the action.

Recently, my account was terminated for “unauthorized use of intellectual property rights.” However, after reaching out to Roblox for clarification, I received no further details regarding which intellectual property I allegedly violated. This lack of context has left me confused and uncertain about the reason for the termination, especially considering none of my games or UGC items have been taken down.

What makes the situation even more unclear is that when I contacted the appeal team, they provided a completely different reason for the termination, citing “cheating & exploits,” which is something I have never engaged in. The inconsistency in the responses is deeply frustrating.

Details of Communication:

  • Termination Notice: The reason given for the termination was “unauthorized use of intellectual property rights,” but I was not informed of which specific creation was at fault or who made the claim.
  • Appeal Response: After submitting an appeal, the response I received claimed the ban was due to “cheating & exploits,” which does not align with the original moderation note or any of my actions.
  • No Prior Warning: I did not receive any email notification or specific warning regarding intellectual property violation prior to my account termination. I woke up to find my account mysteriously terminated without any explanation.

Request for Clarification:

I am requesting clarification on the following:

  1. Which specific intellectual property infringement led to my account termination?
  2. Why was the reason provided by the appeal team (“cheating & exploits”) different from the original moderation note (“IP infringement”)?
  3. What evidence or details led to this decision?
  4. Why was I not given a clear and detailed explanation of the termination before or after it happened?

Not only is copyright manager refusing to tell me what IP I allegedly infringed on. Roblox appeals is also giving me an entirely different reason for my termination completely opposite to what my ban note had said. Roblox also usually gives you an email when your striked for Ip infringement giving details however I did not receive such email.

This experience has been extremely frustrating, as the lack of transparency and the contradictory responses from Roblox moderation has made it difficult to understand what went wrong. I hope that Roblox can provide more clarity and take appropriate action to resolve the issue. This is obviously a bug or mishap in the moderation as I’ve been given no exact reason.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I would appreciate a response to help clear up the confusion and resolve this issue fairly.

Below I have linked some screenshots of email conversations and the ban note which also looks very unprofessionally worded.

Expected Behavior

  • Moderator note matches what appeal says.
  • Disclosure/Clarification on infringed content (and possibly by whom)

The main issue with this being the moderation note not matching what the appeal team claims, and the lack of context towards what and whose IP was being infringed upon.

This is very clearly unintentional, and if not, very unprofessional.

  1. This is not a bug.
  2. You’re generally not permitted to submit bug reports on behalf of others.

Where is this supposed to go, in a feature request? It’s obviously not intended and needs to be addressed. Sure, it can’t be a “bug” in a traditional sense if it’s not related to software, but since this is something that isn’t supposed to happen, I felt like it belonged here. Also, if any of this is related to auto-moderation it is a bug.

  • “You may not post on behalf of non-Developer Forum members in any category except for the Bulletin Board.”

This is the only rule I found relating to this when I checked (and he is a member), and I also reread both “How to post a Bug Report,” and “About the Bug Reports category,” before posting so if there’s something I’m not getting please inform me.

I think I understand @bvetterdays’s vision… Judging by the details and the scenario, it doesn’t sound like a literal bug. Bugs are situations where you can reproduce it and can impact most, if not, every UX (User Experience). Although that, yes, this shouldn’t be the ideal approach to be moderated and when you ask for Roblox Customer Support agents, they don’t provide, there might be a reason behind the scenes. This isn’t the first time people discussed around the forum. That said, this might’ve ended up in #feature-requests:website-features.

As for the second statement, Roman is right. According to a response from a Roblox employee, you can’t report bugs on behalf of a user, whether they are not in the Developer Forum:

On the last part, it says that the guidance will be updated this year, but until then, it might be good to avoid this for any issues

Since when?

I mean, it could be. You just don’t know.

Wow! A response from a year ago that I had almost no way of finding through the “How to Post” guide of bug reports! This is almost hidden!

Jokes aside, I don’t think he said it wasn’t allowed, just discouraged. I don’t see how this makes their job any harder with the information provided.

Thank you for informing me, I’ll keep it in mind and avoid doing this in the future.

Neither are most of the things in this category. Roblox assets being removed by human moderators isn’t a “bug” in the literal sense either, when you think about it.

Edit: Regardless of how “trivial” or not the post is, it’s still a huge issue. Would you rather itens unfairly getting deleted temporarily, or users unfairly getting deleted permanently with no method of appeal? This is more than just an unsatisfacory situation with support, it’s support outright giving an incorrect reason.

Information about a ban is almost always neccecary to appeal one, and the moderators in question fail to provide it. If you get DMCA striked, don’t you need to know who striked you and what they striked you for?

I’ll leave it for staff to decide instead of arguing. If relevant moderation info isn’t being displayed or is being made up and you just want to let it happen then so be it. This most likely isn’t the only user it’s happening to. Is this really the standard you want to set for people if this is intended?

You and I both know that reports on infamous Roblox catalog items being deleted have every right to be posted in this category, and don’t compare to the trivial matter you are posting about. As Juan mentioned, it’s more than likely there is a reason support is sending the responses they are. Imagine if everyone who had an unsatisfactory situation with Roblox Support posted a bug report; the category would be filled with rubbish. There is no underlying issue with Roblox systems here.
