Lacking Obstacle Ideas

I am trying to make a game that is supposed to help practice mastering obstacles that would be in obbies, basically an obby training game. It’s something that I do not see anywhere in Roblox. However, I cannot think of new obstacles to add in my game, and if I do, it’ll be even harder to think of more to add. I request ideas as obstacles people can practice, as development has gotten really slow over the past few days.

List of Obstacles Already in the Game

I might not be able to explain some of these obstacles in detail.

  • Simple Lava Jumps
  • “Blinking” Platforms
  • Tightropes
  • Wrap Arounds
  • Basic Platforms
  • Ramp Lava Jumps
  • Tall Jumps
  • Lava Spinner
  • Skinny Wall Platforms
  • Icy Platforms
  • Long Jumps
  • Head Hitters
  • One Stud Jumps
  • Conveyor Pushers
  • Ball Jumps
  • Single Rope Platforms
  • Spinning Platforms
  • Steep Slopes
  • “Phantom” Platforms (They disappear and reappear, but they will always be solid)
  • Vertical Lava Spinners
  • Truss-to-Truss Jumps
  • Conveyor with Lava
  • Tree Climbling
  • Falling Platforms
  • Free-Jumping (Jumping from a high ledge)
  • Doubled Rope Platforms
  • “Packed” Lava (Lava walls basically)
  • Moving Platforms
  • Trampolines
  • Spinning Cylinders
  • Quadruple Rope Platforms
  • “Bordered” Lava Platforms
  • Lava-in-Middle Platforms
  • Slope Head Hitters
  • Extended Wrap Arounds
  • Tree-with-Lava-Trunk Climbing
  • Skinny Platforms (Not against the wall)
  • Lava Wrap Arounds
  • Tall Wrap Arounds
  • Tall Lava Jumps
  • Lava Pillars
  • Ball Rolling
  • Long Lava Jumps
  • Conveyor Jumps (Jump from conveyor to conveyor)
  • Slides
  • Water Jumping (Bubbles of water to jump across)
  • Growing and Shrinking Platforms
  • Plus-Sign Lava Spinner
  • Truss Jumping (Not truss-to-truss)
  • “Timed” Walls (They won’t be solid for a couple of seconds)
  • Auto Jumping (With lava)
  • Stick Jumps
  • Button Finding (Not really an obstacle, but I put it in anyway)
  • Thwomp-Like Blocks
  • Water with Lava (A big bubble of water with a chunk of lava inside)
  • Hard to See Platforms
  • Rising and Falling Lava
  • Lava Sweeper (Like lava spinner, but with platforms)
  • Random Explosions
  • Loose Platforms
  • Seesaws
  • Four Corners (Again, not really an obstacle, but still made it)
  • Spinning Trusses
  • Circling Platforms (Platforms that move in a circle-like way)
  • Spring Platforms (Platforms with a spring)
  • Pick a Path
  • Spleef (Once again, not an obstacle but still included it)
  • Decoder Things (Like the part where you have to solve a code in Lava Escape games)
  • Speed-Running Course

Once again, I apologize if I didn’t explain the obstacles properly.

I will not remove or alter any existing obstacles that I have already included. I think that they are useful to include, or just fun to play around with.

  • What do you want to achieve? I want to make a fun obby training game with tons of obstacles to practice.

  • What is the issue? I cannot think of new ideas for obstacles.

  • What solutions have you tried so far? I tried playing a variety of games for inspiration, but I cannot find much.

I do not lack motivation. I know I am very motivated to create this game because I am very passionate, and able to complete it. I just do not know what to add in the game, and I’m having trouble figuring that out.

From that list it looks like there are A LOT of ideas. Also i think this belongs in #help-and-feedback:game-design-support

Personally I feel you have enough ideas, just use the same ones and make them more difficult in a way. Creativity can only be pushed so far. If you feel otherwise you could take inspiration from other obby games like the Impossible Obby or the longest Obby in ROBLOX

It is indeed a lot of obstacles. I thought that this would fit in Building Support because I’ve seen “I need ideas” posts in this category, but I will move it if necessary.

Being creative with obstacles is a good idea, but it’s easier said than done. A good chunk of these obstacles already came from games like “The Impossible Obby” and the “Longest Obby”, but it may be helpful for me to dive deeper in those games.

You should try taking inspiration from Mario, with it’s spinning wheels of fire, jumpable gaps, bounce pads, et cetera, since it has a lot of stuff that solidifies it in the platformer genre.

Instead of trying to add new obstacles, you could probably get a lot more mileage out of combining obstacles, since the relationship between 2 things can be just as important as the things themselves.

One stud spring platforms or truss jumps with lava between them adds a new tier of difficulty once everything is mastered in isolation.
