I’m trying to edit my game on a Macbook Air and there is significant lag when clicking on anything in the Explorer, and more lag when clicking a property. It hangs for a split second but is incredibly annoying.
I’m running macos Ventura 13.0 on an M2 machine.
This is also a completely fresh install of Studio that I put on this machine about 30 minutes ago.
Version of Studio is 0.554.0.5540504
Expected Behavior
There should be no latency between clicking an item in Explorer and it becoming selected, or clicking a property and being able to edit it.
Actual Behavior
There is lag whenever you click anything in the Explorer/Property windows.
Issue Area: Studio Issue Type: Performance Impact: Moderate Frequency: Constantly
For a very long while, changing sound properties has always been a pain because it will lag a lot. Can’t think of a reason why this would be happening. Occasionally, just changing the volume of the game in studio lags too.
On Windows 11 as well, with a very good PC.
I don’t have the same problem with the explorer items or any properties, though. Just the sound instance properties.
EDIT: my issue with lag has been fixed by disabling RiverTuner, something I had to limit FPS for smoother Frametime which worked perfectly prior applying the update but since disabling it I have now got back full performance.
I updated to Ventura in October of last year. I had this same issue; clicking anywhere in the studio, you get a 1-2 second lag spike even in play testing mode. I ended up reverting, which was annoying because you have to wipe your Mac to downgrade OS.
Fast forward to now, I decided to give Ventura a shot, and to my surprise, the issue is still here, and it’s really, really bad.
Sadly, its been this long, and the problem still exists.
It’s something to do with Monterey and Ventura. Monterey works fine, but Ventura lags.
I hope Roblox will fix this.
I’m also having this issue on Sonoma. The explorer sometimes even locks up and freezes completely for several minutes, which is extremely frustrating. This is on a Mac Studio with M1 Ultra.
There’s a whole bunch of reasons why this could be happening, some due to Studio, some not (see above where a 3rd party app was causing the issue). The big change since this was posted (and the followups in March) has been we rolled out native Mac ARM builds over the summer. So its possible that if the issue was based in Rosetta then the original problems would have gone away. One thing to check is if your binary is Intel or ARM. We should detect the CPU and download the right app, but for whatever reason if you’re running an old version or something it may not.
The most helpful thing to tracking this down would be to find the most simplified repro you can (something based on baseplate for instance) and then submitting a log (can send it to me on DM). I would also consider any other 3rd party software like RiverTuner or 3rd party AV and try disabling that to see if makes a difference. If you’d like, you can file a new bug specific to Sonoma, or reply back with a detailed description of how/when you experience a freeze.
I can’t seem to replicate it with 100% certainty, but it occurs usually when dragging an object through workspace, scrolling through the workspace, or simply clicking on objects in workspace.
I’m using an M2, also the binary is iOS, I don’t know if that’s intentional?
