Let developers play group animations in studio

Animations require the current place instance to be owned by the creator of a given animation to play it.
Now, when I want to test a cleaned version of a test environment using animations uploaded to a group, I cannot use those animations in Studio, because the place is regarded as a player-created place, and not linked to a group.

I suggest that animations are allowed to play in Studio if the owner of the place has place edit permissions of the group a given animation is linked to. That way, it’ll be easier to do tests involving animations, at least for me (so I do not have to re-upload 3-5 animations on my own account).

Yes I would really love this

There is a way to play an animation in any place. I was bored and was able to test this.

Steps.

  1. Create a group and make it so you have to pend to join.

  2. Make it so anyone can create and edit group places(aka set the Guest rank permissions to it).

  3. Make an animation and publish it to the group. Do this at your place.

  4. Congrats you can now run this animation in any place. I tested this out at script builder multiple times.

Still, why should we need to use a loophole to accomplish something?

That is a cool loophole though. Nice find!

Yeah. It started when I noticed group animations played at my friend’s place. I started testing with a new group, and boop. Loophole found.

Issue with the loophole is that if anyone sees the group, they can overwrite your animations at their leisure :P

Set it to pending only? idk if this prevents people pending to join to make group places.

Oh, wait, even if the permissions allow non-members to publish assets, the site is set up so that you can’t create assets except for groups you’re in. Oops. Nevermind.

I wonder if I can get a red-banded top hat for this.
