customers have a different set of expectations for websites and brick and mortar stores.
decorating an entire store for a game would be impractical; that’s what these are for

Yeah those are really good points. My store analogy wasn’t great.
I’m basing my opinion off of services like Steam, Xbox Marketplace, App Stores, etc. I definitely want to see more artwork done for games (like the banners in app stores for featured games) but I don’t think recoloring a page is the right way to go about it. (Plus if themes were ever reimplemented, this would collide with those completely)
The only games that can have these backgrounds should be on games with 1M+ views, so the games page still has diversity.
