Level Design For an Open World RPG

I’m looking for some ideas or assistance in coming up with a “Map” for my RPG.

The game is focused on exploration in smaller environments. So not completely Open World, Think of it like Monster Hunter in where you have Missions that allow you to explore portions of the map.

I am not worried about efficiency or the time it takes to build the map. The graphics itself are centered on realism.

I really have no idea where to start on this kind of level design. I want the player to feel like they always have new things to explore, without the content of the game becoming to massive.

I’m not necessarily looking for a builder. I’m just trying to find a general concept for stuff like this. Like how should handle the layout, Verticality, and open-ness of the map.

I mean I can do their things but it’s ok I don;t have to help I can give you ideas when I think of them lol
