Light Guides - Visual Assists for Light Projection

This is super cool! Will we get image/decal projectors too some day? Not entirely sure if that’s similar to light projection but I see it as a possibility?

Anyways, this will be super useful for fine-tuning light in maps and such, lighting is surprisingly important in a good-looking game so I’m definitely a fan of this update.

It literally looks amazing, can’t wait to use it in the near future projects.
Nice job!

This is really useful, I love it

This is a very needed feature to builders and even who use lights a lot!

Amazing update! Good job!

Pretty useful feature, thank you Roblox! Finally I won’t have to sit there, feeling silly and rotating through the directional properties trying to work out what side of a part my light object is actually coming out of.

Wow! I might be able to make my work easier with this! Thanks!

I didn’t know i wanted this.
Next: unlimited light range? please

Y’all should make guides like these for proximity prompts too! Would make the workflow of using proximity prompts a lot more convenient.

Awesome addition, no more need for light plugins!

Allows you to create lighting effects way faster! good idea.

Awesome. This is something I’ve been wanting for quite some time. Light guides are a staple of modern game engines, so I’m glad to see it finally added. The studio team has been on fire these past few months, keep it up. :muscle:

Looks like it’s time to say good bye to Light Editor (by Ozzypig) and say hello to the new light guides! :+1:

Also would it ever be possible to increase the range of the lights if not just straight up remove it?

cool! now its left to increase the light range

this is going to be really useful. i can use this a lot when building a map for my game. great update!

Looks way easier to work with.

As much as I dislike the unstable Roblox updates and the constant GUI release and immediate reversions, this is really cool. I currently use a vague plugin for lighting, but this will help me a lot. Great new feature, and I hope more interesting improvements/features will be added as time goes on!

Hello everyone! Today we updated light guides with a fix to how we handle light guides when lights are parented to non-supported instances. Many thanks to @koziahss for bringing this issue to our attention.

We’ve also updated light guides to work better with large angles by providing a center line and keeping light guide struts at a constant length once reaching the 90 degree threshold. We’re still working to fine-tune this and will probably be releasing minor updates here and there to improve the overall accuracy of light guides. @NodeSupport @Mushroom_R

If you have any other requests and/or notice any issues regarding light guides, please let us know.

Here is a video for context of what this update looks like for surface lights, please note this change also affects spot lights in a similar way:

This is awesome! As someone who currently finds it really tedious to convert places from Shadowmap/Voxel to Future, having distinct visuals of each light will definitely speed up the process.
