LightEmission influences the visual transparency of Beams

Reproduction Steps

  1. Insert the attached .rbxm into studio (or just rig any old beam object up so you can see it)
  2. adjust the LightEmission property and Transparency properties and observe the beams visual transparency.

Note: this behavior also applies to Trails.

I’m running:

  • Windows 10 computer
  • Intel Core i7-10700k @ 3.80GHz
  • GeForce RTX 3070 Ti

Expected Behavior
The Transparency property is the only property that should control how transparent the Bream is.

Actual Behavior
LightEmission on Beam objects has influence over the visual transparency of a beam even if the Transparency property of the Beam is set to 0.

Workaround
To the best of my knowledge there does not exist a way to have full LightEmisson without making the Beam slightly transparent. ColorSequences clamp color values so over-setting those can’t be used as a workaround.

I could be wrong, but I think this is supposed to happen

then it needs to be properly documented. It’s not obvious or intuitive that other properties have control over transparency. It feels like a bug, not a feature.

Thanks for the report!! We’ve filed a ticket to our internal database and we’ll follow up when we have an update for you.

The documentation now reflects correctly how the Beams are blended based on the LightEmission.
