So recently an thought hit me, what if, paid games, can have like “Free weekends” or “Try out the game for an certain amount of time…” or something along those lines…
Of course, some of you might say,
“Hey MatkeFTW! There are already paid games, that have like free weekends or something like that.”
And my response is, yeah there are, but they are using an tactic like this.
Come to an decision to have an free access weekend > Change the access to non-paid access > Change the title to lets say “[FREE ACCESS WEEKEND] Ultra Blox Something Game Name” > Overall promote the free weekend access event > Possibly change the thumbnail into promothing the free access weekend event, etc…
And when the free access time is over, the developer would have to change everything once again to its normal state…
Ending up with something like from the first picture…
Using Bloxburg as an example in this whole post! Btw, love the game!
Now in my opinion, I don’t really like the way this overall looks, so my suggestion is to add an simple option in the game configuration page, overall polishing the access feature…
Behold! Access > Sell access to this game > Set a limited time free access
- This first image was an “prototype”, just think that it says “Set a limited time free access” instead of “Free custom time access to this game”
Also I forgot to add an fade to the “New price will be:” that label can’t be changed, its always at 0! Also I messed up the times, ignore that… Oopsie…
So, now that you see what I was thinking, on the page, you can set the “free limited time free access”, to change the time you would have to click those arrows at the “Starts at:” and “Ends at:” to proceed, you would need both of those filled out by the developer, also when the developer clicks on those arrows, it should give an calendar to choose the start and end times, basically making the access changes automatic, and simple.
Now, that isn’t just that, there are more changes after that!
In my mind, I thought of the game’s page looking something like this!
Here are two examples of what it should look like!
By this, in my opinion, it just makes it much more cleaner, much more simpler than that fist picture on this post! Alternatively, there should be also another button, but I was too lazy to edit it in, saying something like “More options” or something along those lines, which, when clicked, would display something like this.
Now keep in mind, after the free time is over, users that don’t own the full access, would of course lose their access to the game.
Now, overall, this thing has a couple of pros, and cons.
-
Pros
Have people try your game for themselves, making them able to experience the game, that might just as well make them consider buying the full access.Would probably boost player counts up high.
-
Cons
Exploiters…People making alts to transfer stuff, like lets say starter pack money or ingame starter items…
(This could actually be avoided by making an script or something along those lines that detects if a player has bought the full access, and just then give them starter packs!)
Also continuing to the con of people transferring stuff, the game developer should be also able to make certain limits, lets say, an player playing with the free access, could maybe lose their progress after the free access sessions, or something along those lines, now this would entirely be up to the developers, making special limits, now, I don’t see the losing progress to effective, but I am just trying to get my point across, basically something along those lines…
Also, roblox could really make something out of this, maybe adding another category on the front page, maybe naming it “Free paid access games!” or “Try out paid games” or something that doesn’t sound as stupid as I could really think of it, but I don’t really want to go deep into this because of the recent drama with the front page categories…
Now this could be a really interesting feature, of course, there are pros and cons as started before, so, If anyone has any opinions on this, please respond, I am pretty interested into hearing what other people thing of this feature too, should It be added, would it be useful? If not so, why? Are there any ways to make this feature better and make it actually on roblox?
