Just trying to post this back to a user who messaged me.
Adding nonsense characters to my posts to hit some character count is dumb. Anyone who is spamming posts should be kicked and the rest of us can just be adults, right?
Especially for PMs.

You should be leaving a quick like instead of posting âthanksâ. Though I do agree that there should not be a limit for DMs.
This is a Discourse issue, which means it should be posted in the Discourse Meta forum.
The character limit is lower on discourse for public replies (20 characters). This can definitely be configured easily on here.
You can do this HTML trick: <hhhhhhhhhhhhh and then a greater than sign(on mobile cannot post a picture).
Just use the button if you need to.
Responses are generally for help/questions or whatever. Not for one-word replies.
Seems kind of impersonal if Iâm responding to a DM.
True; if you donât wanna lengthen your post you can do as @VegetationBush said and use HTML to add invisible characters, like:
<h char1234> </h>
(or <p></p>
ofc)
I guess. Still I suppose removing the limit would be better than needing to do work-arounds.
(Or comments like @wevetments said but I forgot how to do them in HTML and I was too lazy too look them up )
@Shedletsky i actual agree a bit with you. but most people today use discord, skype, and other speak software you donât use roblox/devforum for small talk this is a forum for help and feedback no more or less the best way to remove spam is to use advance AI learning. i know roblox use Discurse but this is not that hard to remove spam i have self worked with AI so i know a bit about it. i think it would solve many things if they added that
We have HTML comment tags
<!--
please don't flag me for using comment tags

(only use these when making short replies longer looks ridiculous)
I mean I guess. But stuff like shown in the picture can easily be avoided by just liking the post. But sometimes itâs useless. Like saying, hey Iâve dmed you in discord. Is under 30 characters. I know you the limit is to make posts âbetterâ but sometimes itâs annoying.
I figure youâd just DM the user about that, rather than putting it as reply on the topic. Not really relevant for anyone else. Should fit over 10 char limit.
10 characters seems more than enough for a private message (where youâre typically going to have short, more âintimateâ conversation), and 30 characters is definitely appropriate for the forum proper (where posts should be a few sentences).
The best way to get around the limit is to tweak the post (e.g. Thank you!
/ Thanks a bunch
rather than just Thanks
).
Side tangent: If you absolutely must bypass the character limit, please @wevetmentsâ HTML comment method (which I personally use); I canât speak for others, but I personally find it quite âcringeyâ to see Thanks! LOL 30 CHARS FUN FUN THIRTY CHARACTERS
in a post.
Please do not use any character hiding tricks on threads. Itâs treated the same way as spamming your post with â30charsâ to get over the limit and can be flagged for spam. Use the like button instead, that is why itâs there. Only respond to threads if you have some kind of discussion to be contributing.
https://devforum.roblox.com/t/why-is-there-a-30-character-limit/556773 this has kind of been discussed before.
I guess in relation to DMs specifically since this seems to be the pinnacle of your issue I do feel the limit is rather useless, however it may simply be to prevent someone spamming another personâs DMs.
All I can say is whats been suggested above doing to go past the 10 character limit.
However as already stated the heart button is preferable for statements such as âthanksâ.
I know how annoying this.
I was commissioning someone and I was trying to inform them I paid them.
I tried saying âPaidâ but I had to change it to âPaidddddddâ
Then just say âI have paid youâ
That is 15 characters.
Fair enough - but I think itâs fine to say one word answers in private DMâs - hence why I replied to this post.
Iâm going to intentionally be pedantic.
âInformationâ is 11 characters
Jokes aside I guess the limit is there so you donât make spammy 1-letter replies like
a
b
c
d
Which clutters the recipientâs inbox.
Alternatively:
â ![]() (bad image url with no alt text)
â

(empty spoilers wonât show up)
⌠â \.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\.\⌠(singular backslashes donât display, and multiple periods are always an ellipsis)
-> < !-- --> (html comment)â <d><e><f> (literally any tag will work, doesnât have to be real)
â (multiple spaces will appear as one)
print("Hello world!")
any number of tildes (instead of ```)
