This is a small project that I started working on a few days ago, and I thought I would share it since it is interesting, despite there only really being two short scripts that are responsible for the main attraction.
This hangout place allows a player to see the local time of any other player in the server, and the TimeOfDay of the Lighting will reflect your local time, and will be different for each player in the server.
I made this place because I wanted to practice working with LocalScripts and because I thought it would be cool. I also made a post on Twitter about making the two short scripts responsible for this (one to change the TimeOfDay to match with the player’s local time, and another to display the local time to everyone else via a BillboardGui).
If you guys have any feedback, feel free to tell me. Note that this is a small project and I’m not interested in making it popular or make from it. If there are any bugs and problems you are experiencing from this place, please let me know as soon as possible, preferably with visual evidence of the problem occuring.
Edit: I made this place open-source, so you can use it to learn how I did everything. It is a good example of server-client communication and what you can do with LocalScripts. I also added a button that can allow you to see the times of every player in the server in a different time format (12-hour clock or 24-hour clock).
Edit 2: I changed the thumbnails and some minor aesthetic things for this map. Nothing major has changed. If you have any suggestions on what I should add, let me know!
Very interesting concept. It was interesting to see different people from different times, as well as such giving different lighting effects for others.
Update: I have made some minor changes to the place, like adding trees and making the time read in a 12-hour clock (i.e. am/pm time) rather than using a 24-hour clock (military time). \
If it’s possible you should add an option to switch between the 12/24 hour clock. That way it’s recognizable to people who can’t read 24-hour time but those who prefer it (such as myself) can use it if they’d like
I just updated this place so you could do that. I made it where you can see every else’s time in the clock you have selected without affecting how the other players want to display their time. It took me a whole day to debug, but I finally got it working today and I am happy with the result.
I updated some minor things regarding the map and, more significantly, made new thumbnails since I wasn’t satisfied with the ones I made before and the old thumbnails isn’t up-to-date. Here are what the new thumbnails look like:
