Looking for Composing Programs

Hello, I’m iiOwenBloxx. I’m an experienced composer on ROBLOX, and I want to find different composing programs to use. Currently, I use GarageBand, but it’s starting to get very boring, as you can’t do much to make your music very good. If you could, please reply with some good composing programs that are free. Thank you.

There are several Music composition programs out there.
One notable example is FL Studio, but that costs alot of money.

Some software that I recommend using is MuseScore, it’s quite popular and its all free.

I personally use OnlineSequencer, when it comes to making music but however it’s very limited with features like mixing and instruments.

You mentioned you are looking for composing software, but you also mentioned that you want to make your music sound very good. You might instead want to look for a DAW, digital audio workstation. Software that is used to make a song from start to finish.

GarageBand is pretty great if you want to stick to free software.

FL Studio is relatively cheap with different licenses for different needs and you can upgrade later if desired. It is often used to produce genres like EDM and hip hop etc.
If you require a DAW with less built-in plugins and instruments (and you want to record your own using hardware instruments) you can go with Reaper, it’s a really good and cheap DAW.

If you want to go with more professional and well known software, Steinberg Cubase, Avid’s Pro Tools and Ableton Live are the industry standards. They come with a premium price for the full versions, however both of these programs do have a sub-100$ light version.

I don’t think it’s possible to get software that is both 100% free, like you said you wanted, and sounds ‘very good’ at the same time.

If you are seriously considering some of the programs I mentioned, you can always look for a demo on their websites and try out the software for yourself.

If you want free, I recommend Flat.

If you want a free composing program, I recommend LMMS - I’ve been tinkering around with it for a while now and you can get pretty good results with the right instruments.

Thanks for the ideas! I’ll make sure to check out all of these!

Here are some DAWs that you can use:

FL Studio: cheap, but has a demo version where you can still compose music, but not having the ability to export the composition

Ableton: cheap, and has a 30-day free trial

LMMS completely free

Cubase Pro

Logic Pro X

Logic Pro or Ableton I’ve found in the past to be really good ones! Logic Pro especially if you’ve used GarageBand, as the layout it is kinda the same, so it doesn’t take much learning!
