Looking for feedback regarding my (unfinished) walking sim game

I’ve been working on a game for quite some time now and I’ve decided that having some feedback on it from others on the devforum would be really helpful.

The game is titled ‘perfectly normal walking simulator’ (i have no idea what to name it) and it’s an exploration game mostly inspired by The Backrooms, while still having its own style that is based on many sources.

It is still in development and has many exits to out of bounds, but these will be filled in the future.

I didn’t implement any lore yet, though i have an idea for an intro thing (not sure if i’ll implement it):
when at your parents’ house, you notice an old VHS camcorder, and as you’re really keen on that kind of technology, you decide to take it back with you. The next day you do some urbex to test out the camcorder, and when exploring you find a set of stairs that lead to a strange place (or noclip, that would explain the damage on the footage). The rest is exploration, maybe there will be an ending with a noclip back to reality or something.

I’m looking for feedback on the following:

  • is the atmosphere unsettling enough?
  • are the graphics and sound design immersive? (keep in mind that many footstep sounds are not added yet)
  • how do you rate the overall atmosphere?
  • which is your favorite part of the game, and which is your least favorite? (and why)

Any positive or negative feedback is appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I’m going to give feedback based on what you’ve asked for, as well as some of my other feedback:

Yes, definitely. With the sound effects and UI effects, they work really well to unsettle me. Even though I was well aware there were no entities, I still felt a bit unsettled when I explored the map further.

Yes, refer to my previous response ^^

I’m assuming that footsteps were added between the time I replied and when you created this topic.

Unsettling yet realistic. It’s somewhat more refreshing than just placing players into the backrooms, so 8/10 for that

Honestly, can’t say what was my favourite part. I didn’t experience the full gameplay the game has yet to offer, but I can say it looks very promising like this.

  • Confusing main menu. Took me a few minutes to figure out how to navigate through the menu and what each button does (e.g. Set Options button).
Main menu controls are clipping each other

Credits clipping each other's text

  • Would recommend placing the pause button while being in-game to another key. I was presing the F2 key to adjust my volume and kept going to the pause menu.

Little mark to show where I left off from your game :smiley_cat:
