[LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK] Starcyst - singleplayer story game

Starcyst is the de-facto sequel to Vile, but you don’t need to play Vile to play Starcyst.

Starcyst is an immersive story and exploration focused game with light combat elements and metric tonnes of optional text to read.

It is currently in Pre Alpha, and I’m posting this thread to get feedback on stuff to improve for the next update.

I’ve released 3 major updates so far as I set it up for future content - adding more features, areas, tools, mobile support, etc, which have done well so far.

As I prepare to do more work with it’s next update, adding the second level out of many as well as any other new cool things, I would like YOU To tell me about your experience with the game.

game link :

the game contains :

  • Crouching (wow)
  • Scanning things to build up a reliquary of information
  • Lore
  • More Lore accessed through Clearance Levels
  • Readables
  • A variety of tools
    • A gun
    • A heavy pipe
    • A scanner / flashlight
    • A special deep space signal receiver (gamepass)
    • A special impulse cannon (gamepass)
  • Detailed environments
  • Funny jokes
  • Many foes
  • The colours purple, magenta, indigo, violet, mauve, heliotrope, etc
  • Little aliens
  • No jumpscares
  • A bonus route in the last area accessible on repeat playthroughs that offers a special challenge

Please tell me what you like, what you dont like, what you want to see, what you would change, etc.

Reading information like that will be like liquid gold being poured into my eyes. But in a good way.

(^ if you get the joke i make by posting this image, well done, you’re a nerd)

Ok I gave it a quick run through and the end screen is broken, I will have that fixed maybe tomorrow as its late & i need to sleep

Checking this out, my first impressions are that the UI design and branding is absolutely fabulous, as in a level of quality I aspire to achieve. It’s a shame is doesn’t have thousands of active players, it feels so much more cohesive in art style than most mainstream games. I love the minimalism and the use of Inconsolata. This is a really well executed idea.

I unfortunately don’t have a lot of time on my hands so I won’t be able to see everything but here’s some things i noticed:

Occasionally text boxes are sized strangely, and become slightly blurry. The Update 3 box looks a lot nicer in this respect. Some boxes on the in game menu also have this problem, though only on Normal size for some reason.

Additionally, the walking feels a little bit static. Maybe add an option for camera bobbing?
Crouching lerps very fast.

The death screen, along with the menu and navigation screen, are absolutely phenomenal.

Some of the ambient particles are a bit large.

I’ve found this to be a problem with RichText, sometimes it will be inconsistently sized, or break and wildly alter the text size and readability. I think these problems have been occurring since around the start of March, so I’ve disabled RichText on text boxes when formatting isn’t being used.

I think it’s a Roblox thing because I haven’t found anyone running into this issue.
