Looking for ways to improve gameplay / game loop

Hello! This is my first post so I apologise if I used any of the tags incorrectly but, I am looking for any feedback on my game about making random shapes. I’m seeking honest reviews and opinions on my game. I’m also looking for ways to improve the game loop and have the game not feel so empty or dead. As well as any feedback or suggestions for the Ui’s or map. All feedback is appreciated, thank you!

I’ve tried your game and assume that you were aiming for a hangout and/or rarity type of experience - so keep that in mind when my reading my feedback below.

(1) Integrate a proper inventory/catalogue UI
After clicking only several times my inventory was polluted with indistinguishably long shape names, meaning I was unable to find a majority of the interesting shapes I generated prior.

There should be rarity indicators, or perhaps even categories for certain rarities or shapes. As the new inventory would be a fully fletched menu, this would also allow you to put all of the shape data (which is currently unclearly displayed as a tooltip) right into the shape’s own respective section in said inventory UI.

(2) Allow players to actually hangout and explore
The game features a bare minimum baseplate as its map. Add buildings, parks, paths, hills, lakes - anything that’s merely explorable. There should be designated places to generate shapes at (flat green spaces, dedicated rooms or whatever), so core map elements won’t be subject to shapes coming all over them - the same goes for PVP areas.

(3) Add a way for players to show off their rarest shapes
Currently you may only hold the generated shapes as if they were a regular tool, which is quite underwhelming, especially if you’re aiming to present a whole collection. Into the map you may integrate player rooms/halls/sections which contain slots on which shapes may be mounted. Players could customize their little display sections or perhaps even increase the amount of shape slots using in-game currency or Robux (monetization).

(4) Miscellaneous ideas and feedback
I’d like to see …

  • merging (Shapes combine their properties)
  • selling (Sell shapes based on their properties → cash used for (3))
  • players buffs (Since there’s PVP, certain shapes might grant buffs)

Consider adding a spawning cooldown to prevent excessive shape generation.


So far, I already enjoy certain elements of this tiny experience, being the satisfying SFX and the vast amount of shape combinations - true gameplay features are what I am missing.

please make the cubes last longer
no cooldown = lag

consider adding one

give the crossbow more explosive power, i want to see millions of shapes floating in the air as the server lags

Okay this game is good but the fact that it makes no sense on what we are suppose to do and the fact that it lacks so many things is sad. Like, there is no map at all, the cubes dissapear, the weapons are questionable and overall the gameplay sucks!

I hate how people just make a game in 10 minutes and upload it on devforum. And somehow those games do better…

Thank you so much for the feedback, I will take all of it into consideration! I will be looking into how to make a custom inventory system that way I can add all sorts of filters and I was also thinking of adding a building mode. I was sort of aiming for the tools to be used for shooting the shapes and people in one but I might create designated areas for them. As well I will definitely be expanding the map so I will need to look into map design and production. For ways of showing off the rarest shapes, are you suggesting I give each player that joins a little cubby or area for them to place their shapes on a sort of podium? (Like how some donation games showcase the items for sale) Also, I will probably consider the monetisation aspect (like 3 free then 5 total after extra space gamepass or smth) I’m not very sure how merging would work but selling I will 100% be adding, I was thinking of formulas to convert rarities into money, and player buffs is an excellent idea. (also there is a little spawn cd like 0.05 seconds but I might move it to like one second lmao) Thank you so much for your detailed reply it was everything I was looking for! And thank you again for all the brilliant ideas I will for sure be integrating them into the game with each update (maybe 2 or 3 for everything).

You can drop the shapes from your inventory for a permanent replica of them, but to add that as an official thing, I’ll look into adding a building feature. I will also increase to cooldown to maybe a second or more if fit (0.05 > 1). I wanted to make it somewhat like Hawkeye’s crossbow, but I will 100% be giving it way more explosive power lmao. The game was aimed more like a hangout game and rarity game like PerfectlyBlack said, but I do think I may need to add a tutorial since there is no clear direction upon first joining. The map I will have to work on the for sure and the cubes despawn so the server doesn’t lag, but are placeable from your inventory. The weapons I can see where the confusion would come from as there isn’t anyone else to use them on but the shapes lol which does take away from their purpose. Also not sure if it’s a bad thing but the game took more than 10 minutes to make and it is just a small project. Thank you for your honesty though I will be looking for ways to improve the game taking into consideration uhh your feedback…
