Lua Chat: Different bubble color for specific message

I’m using Roblox’s default Lua Chat System to make players automatically say certain messages. More specifically, I’m using ChatService:GetSpeaker() to get the player’s speaker and then ChatSpeaker:SayMessage() to create the message.
In order to tell apart normal chat messages from automatic messages, I decided to change the ChatColor property of the message (through the extraData parameter), which works for the chat window. However, chat bubbles above the player’s head are still indistinguishable.

What would be the best way to change the bubbles’ color (or just change the bubbles somehow) for these specific messages only? Do I have to fork the chat system? Or should I just take an entirely different approach?

The answer is simple: You do need to fork a script, but not the entire chat system.
I will post the full script below and put comments in it what exactly I changed and why so you can understand it a bit more, and I will also state a basic step to step on how to do it, but not a full one.

  1. Fork the BubbleChat LocalScript and parent it to Chat
  2. Change all functions that call OnPlayerChatMessage to pass the messageData object itself
  3. Apply the ChatColor to the entire Chat Bubble if it exists

Tip: If you use th Find function inside of the Script Editor and search for @CHANGED you can find all changes I did since I documented them like that.

Check out this existing thread, I saw it a week ago and I think it may be relevant to what you want to accomplish. There is some good discussion in there so I hope it is easy to follow coming from your thread. Hope this helps.

Would this enable you to change the chat bubble color itself AND the text within it? Like am I supposed to put the data in a table format when it’s sent as messageData?

I’m stuck on how I would go about giving the actual chat bubble a certain color if the player owns a gamepass for example, using those arguments.
