As a Roblox developer, it is currently too easy to …
Make an alt account and get into the DevForum.
If Roblox is able to address this issue, it would improve my experience using the forum because …
1: People unser 13 wouldn’t be able to get into the forum by making an alt a easily as it is now. (I have friends who wanted to get into the DevForum but they aren’t of age, so they thought they could make an alt but I told them not to because there is a reason DevForum is for 13+.
2: People wouldn’t be able to make spam accounts as easily. (People wouldn’t make an account let’s say today and then in like 3.5 hours they are in spamming the wall.)
3: Bots won’t be able to get into the DevForum as easily. (I understand the requirements to get in but an automated bot could meet this easily.)
While I can see how this can add a cooldown to people who use alt accounts to constantly break rules, I can also see how this can easily be bypassed. For example, I have some alt accounts more than a year old, but they’re not signed into the DevForum. So, people can just have these old accounts ready for use while creating new ones for X days after (until they can use it to get into the DevForum).
Plus, if they make an alt account, that doesn’t mean they’ll automatically get access because their main account has it. They start from scratch as a visitor, member, etc. To dampen the speed-rule-breaking, those requirements need to increased.
And account age is nowhere near the solution needed to enforce the 13+ rule. A 15 year can be new to Roblox and needs to wait unnecessarily long, while a 9-year-old can be playing on that account for two years and be “qualified” to get into the forum at age 11 in terms of the account age criteria.
This already is how it’s done, it’s not trivial at all. Kids that clicked the developer icon after looking at a #bulletin-board post, then try to reply, will not be able to and will not try to create an alt account. Only some kids create alts to sneak onto here, but we normally catch them quickly.
