Make trees using blender

Im pretty sure most of the builders/3d modelers wondered at least once how hard it can be to create a tree in blender.
I was also at that point a few months ago and I decided to share with you some of my favourite tree modeling techniques, going from simple stuff like scaling and extruding to a bit more advaned stuff like nodes and modifers. I’ve got a video on youtube explaining the techniques I use and the priciples of making trees: 5 ways of making trees in Blender - YouTube
got any tutorial suggestions? or you struggle with something? let me know in the comments.

Might be helpful to know:
-s (followed by x z y) will scale on the selected axis
-g (followed by x z y) will move the object on the selected axis
-r (followed by x z y) will roate the object on the selected axis (you can also type a value like 90 to perfectly rotate the object)
-i insets faces (pressing i 2 times will inset separate face which is good for making crates) (also pressing b will make inset behave like on a normal object when the mirror modifer is enabled)
-e extrude(alt+e extrude individual faces)

Just use tree sapling generator and learn/adapt to how to work with it

Edit → Preferences → Add-ons → Search “Sapling Tree Gen” → Click the Box to enable it then close

You should have it enabled and depending on your add keybind ( Shift+ A Default ), add one by going to curve, access the drop list, and then select the Sapling Tree Gen curve. Also don’t forget to convert to mesh as it’s a curve.

I have it too, but for this tutorial I decided to teach people how to manually make trees, I agree it’s helpful but curves aren’t the best to use when making Roblox games (even after adding a decimate modifier) thanks for letting people know about it though.

Of course and no problem! Regarding the curves I usually go back and edit the tree manually when I finish the generation to make them look more like the tree I’m going for. Another thing is that you can lower the resolution of them if you’re worried about face/tri count inside of the tree’s settings

If you’re trying to make a tree really fast, instead of using E to extrude, you can hold control and right-click where you want the branches to be! Both methods work very well though!

There is a very good plug-in named MTree. It’s latest versions are buggy, but older versions are working nicely. You first of download Blender 3.3 version, and then download MTree 4.0.2.1a. It’s the patched version for Blender 3.X. There is another plug-in called AnyTree. It’s much more diverse, and was created by a person who is also on YouTube, and makes tutorials. You can use those plug-ins. Use these if you wish to get a more realistic tree because Sapling tree has terrible UV maps.

These are some great actually tips, thank you!

Just to help you more on this, a paid software on Steam named TreeIt is also incredible. You can make your tree stems in that software, and spread leaves in either Blender, or TreeIt itself.
