Making a Casino - Things to consider?

That’s called a Gacha Machine and they do have those in real life.

In my opinion, you shouldn’t make an actual casino with the basics of one with things that might promote some backfire, but rather similar to what games on Roblox have made with a crate or currency randomizer.

Back then, some Roblox games like as you mentioned skin crates, knives, or maybe a chance of more coins aren’t really teaching kids much about gambling and rather more of a prize. In 2013, deathrun did have slot machines and other Roblox games that introduced randomizers whenever you bought something with in-game currency for a good or small reward. However, you shouldn’t make things cost R$ as that would be considered gambling in the first place and just make it coins.

Roblox did allow this before and still is with crates in MM2, simulators and murder games that are around today but I would check what are some equipment of ways it’ll be considered gambling and some ways that won’t be gambling.

You can disagree or agree with me and I wouldn’t care, you have to double-check TOS and check all the games that Roblox allowed and sponsored that used a system similar to gambling and still is around today.

I would say it’s allowed, but don’t promote too much that might be considered “gambling”, it’s ok in my book. :open_book:

Any of the in-game currency would not have anything to do with robux. That would be a violation of the TOS.

It’s becoming a little more acceptable now that My Restaurant has added Slot Machines into their game. So this is a start of a new experience that will overtime be more adopted.

That’s a good step in the right direction, some developers make the opposite and bad path and make their games against the TOS and I’ve seen it before. Good that it won’t have any affect to the games’ moderation and such.

Just a typical question: Will the coins cost R$ in a secondary shop or will users get some for free whenever joining?

That’s true, some people did backfire on this update and slot machines are ok but as long as it doesn’t cost R$ but rather in-game currency and that would be totally fine, somehow the slot machines cost R$ after the first spin and correct me if I’m wrong there. :flushed:

Let’s try breaking down what we know.

Using Robux for in-game slot machines are against TOS, so don’t do that.
As long as the game doesn’t promote the system, then it won’t be in violation.
There are a bunch of different ways to make your slot machine, and a lot of them were posted here.
Murder games like MM2 have crates where they would spin to win an item, which is okay to use.
Using in-game currency for slot machines that are given by the game is completely fine.

If you can, reply to me if I missed anything, or messed something up.

A lot of games have done it, like The Plaza. I think it’s fine, but I suggest adding a disclaimer when you enter the casino to say stuff like this:

  • REAL Robloxians don’t gamble.

  • Don’t gamble in real life.

You get the point.

Kinda like the Payday 2 Disclaimer.

of course you won’t be able to survive so many waves of police coming after you.

Basically said Don’t rob in real life.

That’s technically your opinion if you think gambling is right or wrong. Personally I don’t like gambling but it’s really their choice to like gambling or not and not if it’s right or wrong.

You don’t want to accidentally start an addiction.

Well, you can just make up some sort of name of your own custom-made cash, and then use it for your game

As someone who personally grew up with a slot machine in my house hold but doesn’t have a gambling addiction, it’s probably safe and really up to the user how they feel about gambling in the end.

I’ve played many games with “gambling” such as My Restaurant’s slot machine, and like @chadnome77 said games with cases. They’ve never given me an addiction or anyone I know an addiction.

(Sorry for my horrible spelling)
I believe gambling is allowed as long as you tell the percentage of the chance you get an item. For example, all pet games, when you open a box/chest/creat, may say 50% common 20% uncommon 5% godly.
However, as stated recently, you cannot gamble ROBUX or real-life money.

EDIT: Actually, I’ve seen some games that gamble without telling you a precentage. Maybe you can gambl, just as long as you do not use real-life money. I’d have to look at the ToS.

Alrighty. I looked it up. You cannot have ROBUX LINKED to the in-game money spend gambling. So if players can buy coins then you are NOT allowed to use those coins to gamble. However, if you can ONLY EARN These coins then yes, you can gamble them without telling the percentage of winning.

Gambling isn’t allowed? :ear: What’s that my restaurant?

Try taking a look at this, @chadnome77

EDIT 06/20/2023

As of the same date of this edit, Roblox has officially moved to ban simulated gambling by September 18th, 2023 (in 3 months), which means that all forms of gambling are no longer allowed on the platform. This contrasts the prior stance to which, as long as there was no Robux involved, it could be passable.

The advice in this post is no longer accurate. Please avoid sharing this as an answer. For more information, please see Updating our policy on simulated gambling in the thread Create Experiences for People 17 and Older on Roblox.

Sigh. I knew there would be misinformation and logical fallacies on a gambling thread.

Gambling is allowed if Robux isn’t involved. Case systems and pet givers are a different topic altogether which adhere to a different policy, the virtual random items policy. Don’t blur the two policies together, because you’re going to be in trouble with moderation if you don’t adhere to the proper policies.

Please do your research before you make untrue assertions about the nature of this activity on Roblox. That goes for OP as well - loot boxes are not under the same restrictions as outright gambling.

Let’s get back on track now with addressing the actual thread rather than debating whether it is or isn’t allowed. Given you follow the expectations set out, the activity is not outlawed.

Gambling is allowed with robux such as crates etc if the odds of winning are clearly stated before purchasing it.

Please read posts above your own before replying. I just said not to blur the two policies. Gambling and loot crates adhere to two different policies. They aren’t interchangeable and they set different standards for each mechanic that need to be followed.

Gambling is NOT allowed if you have Robux attached to it in any way. Lootboxes ARE allowed, however if there is Robux involved you must disclose percentage chances of winning items.

that is misinformation, in pure ToS terms, you are allowed to have gambling, as long as said gambling does not involve robux or real money in any way shape or form
