Making a game for college | Thoughts?

Hi Developers,

I haven’t been active on here for a good while, however, I would like to share with everyone a game I’ve been working on for a college assignment! The game is technically released (I had to rush it because of my tight deadline :grimacing:), however, I would love some feedback or critique on the gameplay, the design and perhaps the cliche humour!

To give you some background, I was tasked with making a medieval-themed game, but the gameplay can be anything. So, I decided to make a non-linear story game (multiple endings), where you earn a badge per ending!

Please consider that I had a very tight deadline and some things may seem unpolished! Feel free to point them out, however, please don’t take the whole quality of the game for granted, I wish I could polish it more at this stage, but maybe after this semester! Your suggestions will be used for this or other projects of mine!

Noobstaite Kingdom [6 ENDINGS] - Roblox
Here’s the game!

Thanks for looking, I hope you like this and can’t wait to hear from you!

Alright so I played the game and got the ending where a sword was thrown in my face.

Anyways the game seems fine it was very polished however there were two problems.

First there was nothing guiding me so I had no ideas where to go or what to do.
Second the lag, dude my game was running On 400 ping and I have a good pc that can run lots of quality games, use module scrips or oop

Hi thanks for your suggestion!

I have been considering adding guidance, now that you have mentioned it, I’ll add it in a future update, however in the mean time, feel free to explore the game and see how many endings you can get by going around the map! Here’s a hint, if you give Dustin a dime, you will get a Head Band, that will let you inside the castle. You will have to find the dime somewhere in the map (it’s not far off from Dustin. Hope this helps meanwhile!)

As for the lag, first off I’m sorry for the lag, I’m not entirely sure why it’s laggy. I have used ModuleScripts. My theory about the lag is that the grass and leaves are being tweened. I’m not entirely sure, I have used CollectionService to animate them. However, I may make an option to enable or disable these tweens. If you have any recommendations for them, please feel free to let me know!

As for OOP, I still haven’t learned how to utilize that in my code yet, sorry! I would need to learn it  so I’ll do my research when I’m free!

Thanks for your contribution!

I gave it a try but it’s unplayable in my potato :frowning: (my internet isn’t as bad, but the graphics aren’t any better)

It looks good at first glance, I hope I can play it sometime.

Hi, thanks for attempting to play! I am really sorry for it being unplayable. I noticed a lot of people are struggling to play, so I might just disable the tweens and go ahead with that. I will make sure to inform of this change!

Again, super sorry for the inconvenience :frowning:

Hello @proceduralhappiness !

I am sorry if I took a while, however, I tried disabling the grass tweens and it should help with performance significantly! Don’t hesitate to contact me if the same issue occurs!

Ok, thank you! I’ll try playing it again later today.

Way better fps now! Network stats are high but it’s because the Roblox servers are far away, this happens with every Roblox game I play, don’t worry, it’s way more playable now!

Yay! I’m so glad it’s tons better! I hope you get to enjoy gameplay now!

It’s quite a fun little game. I need to make a suggestion a though.

The network end & Recv stats are horrendous considering that nothing is going on and it is effectively a story game. I assume this is because of the effects going on in the game.

For all effects you have, change these to be Client side only, probably in Starter Char scripts. Things like the leaves swaying, water movement, wind particles. All this is unnecessary replication from server to client.

Not sure what is going on with the Send data though. What info have you got going back from the client. I cant see that just being response traffic.

Overall good job though.

Hi @BadDad2004 ! Thanks for your suggestion!

I will be working on updating the effects client-sided. The reason why they’re server at the moment is because I was tasked with making several server-side scripts, and it turned out to be just enough to add another server-side script for effects! However, once I get assessed, I will make sure to fix this issue ASAP! Thanks again, and I’ll be happy to inform you once this issue is fixed!

Hi again @BadDad2004 !

So, I have done what you have told me and the Network / Recovery stats should be SIGNIFICANTLY improved! Thanks again for your amazing suggestion and for helping my game be in a better state, I’ve managed to sort it out!

I hope the experience is a lot smoother now!

I’ve just taken a bit to play through this game! Honestly extremely polished and really funny! I liked the general vibe of the game, and the art style is really cozy and unlike things I’ve seen before.

I’m reading through the comments, and guidance is something that’s a give or take! Right now it’s very linear, but from the style of this game, I feel as though this would eventually balloon up to having around 20-30 endings if it was something that you continued to make. At that point the entire point of the game is to look around and find what happens, and I think guidance would hurt that more than help it. I felt getting caught by the guards and then finding the tree next to it while looking around was very intuitive!

I spent 10 minutes looking for the last ending and it just setting the castle on fire was great LOL, good work here.

Hi @FatelessDrifter ! Thank you so much for your comment!

I do plan on continuing this game, considering that I’ve seen many people enjoy it! I actually did consider if I should do guidance or not, and I do want to make it into an explorative game. In that case, I might create a switch for guidance to satisfy both the explorers and the quick players, to say the least haha!

I’m thrilled you have enjoyed the game, it means tons to me! You probably have seen a few NPCs inside houses from unfinished endings, I didn’t have enough time to make some more, but don’t worry I do have some ideas. Thanks for being a part of the spark of hope!

Just played it for a bit.

I find the game really enjoyable and I enjoy the explorative vibe and the quests too, for a college assignment this is great. But I think it could be even greater as an actual game - would love to see this being continued!

Overall, really clean game! :happy3:

Hi @HouseOfToy !

Thank you so much for your lovely comment! It means the world to me, and I do hope to make this game a lot bigger and better for the public!

But for now, wish me luck to make it to our local expo!! I will be extremely happy to send information about it if I do make it! Even if I don’t make it, this won’t discourage me of making something great by your comments!
