Hello! I am Uralic, and I have been thinking about what I could go about doing to make murder game that could keep a steady playtime, and be enjoyable to play.
I have a few ideas for a game like this, however I would like criticism on whether or not I should keep these features, or criticism on ways I can improve these ideas and features, or if I should all together just toss these.
Feature Ideas
A crate system similar to that of Murder Mystery 2
Unique Skins, and Rarities, and a trading system.
Allowing me to create an economy within the game’s playerbase.
A high quality knife and gun system.
Quality animations, sounds, trails and other eye candy.
Radios, Pets and Other Cosmetics.
Plans such as radio effects that sync with the audio that is playing, and unique knife effects.
Special Rounds (Unique rounds in order to keep the game interesting)
Plans for an infection based round, or juggernaut type round.
Unique maps, with many hiding spaces and interesting features (Such as terrain, large areas to hide in, etc). Maps especially have a large play area. (~1k-2.5k studs in size)
24 Player Servers, allowing for greater amounts of players and more interesting interactions
Different gamemodes, such as a Minigames gamemode, or other entertaining variations.
Anyway, those are my ideas for the game itself, I’m interested in your analysis of these ideas and potential feedback for new ideas and other features to add.
-Keep the crate system, it’s a good edition
-Limited items are also a good edition
-You’d always want high-quality animations, not sure why you wouldn’t aim for that
-Not sure I like the pet idea… whenever I play games with them, for example in murder mystery, they give away my hiding spot
-Effects are nice, keep those
-Special rounds sound really cool… variation always helps
-Yes, infection! That’s a great idea
-You’d always want unique maps, who wants monotonous ones?
-Not sure about the large play area though… if using this idea probably don’t have a large open space as that’s always annoying
-24 sounds about alright, maybe a bit lower?
-Yes, different game modes sound great
Some marketing book I barely remember said this about making new products similar to the ones already on the market - If you want success you’ll need to make the product 9 times better
Improving upon the same murder idea that has already been improved upon by countless other developers will prove to be very tricky. Start from pointing out the problems games like Murder Mystery 2 suffer from the most and try to solve those very problems.
Regardless… Nikilis has really refined his game towards the liking of most murder fans and I think it’s better to try to make a game that’s inspired by murder, but is a completely new game mode.
This - Nikilis has been working on Murder Mystery 2 for nearly 6 years now, you’re unlikely to be able to do what he’s done better. Feel free to take inspiration from Murder!, but you’d do better to innovate.
Fo example, even a 1000 stud map is too much. Unless you plan to have servers running up to perse, 50 or more people. The game will be more running around then action.
