Cutting and Changing the speed of a video

So you’re editing a video and notice that you just don’t like that part and the whole video is fast/ slow.

Cutting - To cut you will need to select the part by using the normal edit tool.
cursor - Position this to the place where you want to cut the video and press S

A separation like this should appear.
partition

Then you want to move the cursor to the other section of the video so you can delete that part. Press S on your keyboard to create a partition and you should have two separation lines.
partition%202

Then click on that video and click delete on your video and you should be left with a gap.
video

Now you want to pull the other video and position it into the gap to allow the video to play normally.

Changing the speed of a video
Now we will change the speed of a video since it’s a bit slow for me. To do this you want to hold down CTRL and pull outwards from the video to make it slow or pull inwards to make it faster.

Now you know how to cut and change the speed of a video.

Video FX

Video FX can be used for a variety of things. To get to this setting you need to right click on the video and click the Video FX option.

Then you should be met with this UI.

As you can see there is a variety of presets. Each of these presets have different properties. I cannot show you all of them and I suggest you just play around with them but in this tutorial, I am going to show you one of the effects of a preset from the video FX. For example, I will be making the video Monochrome (Black and White)

To do this you want to scroll to the end of the presets until you find Black and White.

Then you want to click OK.

You should see a UI open like this and see your real time render video change to black and white.

Now you can change how much Black and White you want by using the blend settings. I am going to keep at 1.000.

Now my video looks like this:

I want to zoom into the video a bit more. For this we will need to click the cropping tool which is located on your video.

You should then be met with this UI.

To zoom in you will need to scale the Rectangle down. I will show you in the gif below.

Save it then close it and now my video looks like this:

Transitions

I want to make it so my video fades and has an “adrenaline flash” of videos

Fade
To make your video fade it’s quite simple. You have to go to to the top right corner of your video and pull it inwards. Depending on how long you pull the faster the fade comes in.

And when we play the video it will look like this:

Adding a special transition like a flash
I went ahead and split up the video’s for the “adrenaline flash” I made 3 different sections for it.

Now you want to find the flash transition in the transitions category.

Then you want to drag and drop the transition on the videos

Play around with the settings until you’re satisfied.

Add the flashes to all the videos and your outcome should be this:

Lighting

To change the lighting of a video we need to go to the video fx of the video. I will show you how to add a lens flare and tweak the lighting.

Lighting
You will be met with this UI

You want to scroll and find Vegas Fill Light

Then you want to click OK and you will be met with this UI

Now, play around with these settings till your satisfied with the outcoming. If you click on plugin chain you can also add BCC Brightness & Contrast to tweak the lighting more. Press ADD then OK for the plugin to be added.

Then you will click brightness and contrast and just tweak the settings till your satisfied.

and now my video looks a bit brighter:

Lens Flare
To add a lens flare repeat the steps of opening the video event fx and click plug-in chain and you will be met with this UI again:

Play around with it and you should get a lens flare:

Just a quick question, does Sony Vegas cost money to purchase? Also do you purchase it on a monthly based subscription like Adobe or is it a flat out fee?

Yes, yes and yes. You can either subscribe for a license or purchase a lifetime license.
There ain’t many free good video editors out there. If you don’t want to spend money, have a look at DaVinci Resolve.
