Making shirts should not be locked behind a paywall

Imagine as a Roblox developer if you had to buy Roblox premium in order to make a game. That sounds like such an unreasonable premise doesn’t it? Roblox is supposed to be a platform where anyone can create anything (appropriate), so why is it that non-premium Roblox users can create full-fledged games but they can’t even create a measly shirt?

This idea would be incredibly easy to implement. All you have to do is remove the barrier to making clothing. We have already seen many barriers already lifted for non-premium users such as making and owning groups, and being entitled to a 70% cut of marketplaces sales revenue they make for their games instead of the traditional 10% back in the day, so this seems like another logical step in the process.

Some concerns I feel you would have would be about the clothes stealing problem. Some may try to argue that by removing the paywall, this would open the floodgates for massive amounts of stolen and botted clothing to go on the market. I would argue that it is Roblox’s responsibility to crack down on stolen clothing, and that a paywall is not the solution. Stolen clothing on Roblox is a huge problem already as is and removing the paywall would not make it significantly worse than it already is.

I feel that the benefits of removing the paywall on Roblox greatly outweighs the drawbacks. As of right now, non-premium Roblox users can only make T-Shirts but I think that this right should be extended to other articles of clothing.

Honestly. There isn’t any other branch of development on Roblox that’s completely locked behind a premium barrier than clothing. Everything is free, supporting newer developers, except a t-shirt. Come on.

As an extension, perhaps letting non-premium users sell clothing would also be a plus. I’m okay if it costs Robux, just not premium to sell.

Yeah, I mean this is but an arbitrary restriction, yes making uploading shirts free does make stealing a lot easier but then again, uploading free models is free and creating backdoors is free as well.

I believe it’s to prevent easy stealing & reuploading.

If you ban someone who steals clothing, they have to spend another $5 to create an account that can steal again. The problem is that stealing has become a lot more profitable than $5/month

A better idea would be to make the source decals for clothes protected. Currently, all you need to do to steal clothing is to paste a shirt asset ID into studio, search the new ID that comes from it, and then download straight from browser as an image.
