Hi guys,
Hopefully some of you watched the BLOXcast and got to take a look at Sprint Racing. I’m getting close to completing the game’s features so I need some help getting maps ready!
What I need:
Maps for sprint. Here’s the map criteria:
[ul]
[li]Theme: Anything[/li]
[li]WalkSpeed will be 45 (but can go up to 90 or 120 with items)[/li]
[li]Shouldn’t have really cramped hallways[/li]
[li]Doesn’t make super sharp turns, try to keep smooth[/li]
[li]A lap should take around 30-40s (at walkspeed 45)[/li]
[li]You can use arc plugins to make nice smooth tracks. These feel the best. Alternating brick road color works great (just make sure to fix the Z fighting)[/li]
[li]Don’t make the map challenging. No fall traps, difficult jumps, repetitive jumps, etc [/li]
[li] No ramps whatsoever. For elevation changes, have the user jump. Make sure these jumps are spaced out so that a user with 120 walkspeed won’t end up ramming the next step. Large drops are fine.[/li]
[li]Try to stay below 1000 parts[/li]
[li] Make sure a user can’t escape the map. It’s okay if they can escape by flinging. That won’t happen.[/li]
[/ul]
That map has a nice curved path which is easy to follow. The cave is neat because it’s pretty dark but doesn’t last long. There are obstacles to jump on, that can slow you down if you miss. But they aren’t difficult to jump over. The challenge comes from items, not the environment. The environment keeps the game scenic. Notice the mountains and trees near the end which really make the map look nicer. I wish this map had more decorations around the map’s outside.
The Pay: 15,000 R$ per map. This is a fair price because these maps can be made in under two hours if you’re a decent builder. And I’m happy to pay someone multiple times for multiple high quality maps.
How to send it to me:
Simplest way is to post a picture of your map here, and contact me on skype @ alexhicks1996. Alternatively just PM me here, that’s fine by me! Just avoid ROBLOX PMs.
Sample theme ideas:
[ul]
[li]Beach[/li]
[li]Jungle[/li]
[li]Candyland[/li]
[li]Underwater[/li]
[li]Inside a mountain (mining shafts - make sure ceilings are high)[/li]
[li]Mushroom kingdom[/li]
[li]City (rooftops? just avoid tons of jumps or ramps)[/li]
[li]River/rapids (think white water rafting / running down a stream, jump off waterfall, etc)[/li]
[/ul]
If you’re interested please post or PM me with questions, just so I can gauge interest in this!
I wouldn’t make an exact replica but the game is clearly inspired by mario kart and obbies. The similarity isn’t an issue. Just so long as map layouts aren’t literal copies. Sprint is actually less of a copy than most clones, because I trashed the vehicle idea. Whether or not that was a good call, is yet to be seen.
I’ve not received any interest from RBXDev members so I’ll be asking people that currently play the game as well as my twitter followers. They’ll be offered 10,000R$ but I’m still down to pay RBXDev members 15k. I just need to get the ball rolling here.
IMO we don’t have enough builders here on RBXDev. Whenever the word “Dev” is tossed around everyone assumes the person is a scripter.
You can’t have a good game if the game itself can’t be built. =p
That said - could we just send invites to RBXDev to the top couple ranks of EBR?

I’d make one but I’m busy with other projects right now. Rukiryo, will you still be accepting maps in a week?
Pros:
-Nice attention to detail with the rocks
-Nothing that gets in the way of the camera
-Very obvious where the user should be heading
Cons:
-Z Fighting
-Tad short, but that’s okay
Note: I place the speed boosts, a lot of people have asked whether or not they need to do that. No, I handle all game-related stuff.
“No ramps whatsoever. For elevation changes, have the user jump. Make sure these jumps are spaced out so that a user with 120 walkspeed won’t end up ramming the next step. Large drops are fine.”
I feel tricked… It’s way easier to make maps if you can have some sort of elevation changes like slopes, but you told us that the map can’t have any, and now you’re showing us a map with elevation changes that you accepted?

I think he meant ramps as in steep slopes. The slopes in here wouldn’t interfere with a fast character, whereas steep ramps would make the character trip up slightly.

That seems to be the case, though it’s hard to know since he states that he wants no ramps whatsoever, not that he doesn’t want steep ones. :?

When I played the game, I immediately noticed that not a single map followed th guidelines he set out. The volcano map has ramps and you can fall through the floor, and the forest map has ramps and you can fall through the floor. The ice map pictured is not only cramped, but also has ramps at the end. The lighthouse map was the final nail in the coffin for his guidelines: it also has ramps and you can fall off. After that I just kinds shunned them and went with my gut.
