Gradients are defiantly a good choice when used well, and in this case I think you did a great job using them, the color theme works well together and overall looks good.

Thank you! I found that the trick to making colors work well with each other is to follow the “complimentary color theory” where you literally pull the complimentary color of the main color. For example, I used the color purple-red for the main GUI frame color and pulled the exact complimentary color, green, to use for the accessory detail such as the vote buttons.
