Medieval Helmets - From Simplified To Photorealism

Back in 2019, I was doing my first medieval helmet models, and rendered them to the best of my skill and knowledge at the time. Recently, I’ve been practicing PBR, messing around with stylisation and trying to find an aesthetic for presentation that I like. I’m definitely not where I want to be yet, but I wanted to see what others think of the progress I’ve made so far  I’ll be showcasing a render of a few models made back in 2019, a render of their remodels from 2022, as well as both models shown in Studio.

I’ll be showing a German Sallet, a Horned Barbute (Fantasy) and a Visored Barbuta. If there are any other medieval helmets you’d like me to try out, let me know! I love modelling, and am always up to a fun challenge.

Disclaimer: These renders are intentionally made with high-poly models.

Personally the German Sallet is wonderfully made. It’s design and detail is unmatched.
