So I recently hopped on the 3D modeling bandwagon. Because of this, I know almost nothing. Lately, I’ve been running into an issue that I really have no clue as to why it happens and how to fix it. When I import a multi-part mesh from Blender or Maya into studio in either .fbx or .obj, the objects inside the mesh seem to always fuse. Obviously, there are many circumstances where this is unwanted, and I was wondering if you guys knew how I could fix and prevent this issue. Note my software of chose is normally Maya.
I always import meshes from Blender as an .fbx file.
I think you should include an image of a mesh that shows what you mean by the mesh fusing (in studio). This way, developers familiar with 3D Modelling software can easily recognize the problem you have encountered and will be able to help you out easy.
Valid point there. This is not the model I originally was posting for, but i was working on this one, and it’s having the same issue, so I’ll use it as the example.
So right now, I’m working on a simple spotlight for a homestore commission. I had the blinders and a few other parts separate originally like so… (some of my upload settings are in that side window)
When uploaded to studio, they fused together to form just a single, cohesive spotlight instead of staying separate. (note the light part is a studio part, not a part of the spotlight itself)
Here’s more import setting info:
What I Know(so far)
Did you import it through the ‘Game Explorer’? That’s where you could upload each mesh separately. Then, you can start inserting them all through the game explorer.
At this stage, do you mean that you wanted to import the meshes you made in Blender (that are in one file) to be imported into your studio as however many different meshes you made it to be in Blender?
Essentially, yes. Also note I use Maya mostly. I use Blender only for small tasks like cleaning up meshes, since the task to do that in Maya is more obscure.
Well, I just tested it, and you’re right 100%. I was importing to a mesh part, which was probably the reason everything fused together. I tried importing through the explorer with the same model and it worked like a charm.
Specifically for Blender
When exporting obj files be sure to uncheck the ‘Objects as obj Objects’ and check the ‘Objecs as obj Groups’ (the default is set to obj Objects). Roblox will split the meshes for you when importing.
Don’t feel that you have to use fbx files all the time, as they are much larger than obj files. I’ll leave it up to you to do more research on both file types and decide when it is best to use fbx or obj.
the design looks great and very detailed
what it would lack to put Neon
