Hello everyone. For those of you who haven’t even officially met me, my name is Steve and I am the owner of The Roblox Marvel Cinematic Universe. I took this group over for a friend in February of 2016. It had 42 members and had never even had a roleplay, but this friend wanted the group to do well and he knew that he did not have time to do what would need to be done with it. Now, the RMCU is just shy of 7,000 members (by far the largest Marvel RP group on Roblox) and has hosted literally thousands of roleplays.
In the past 7 years, I’ve met some great people, had some really good times, and have without a doubt enjoyed every minute of it. This is why this is particularly difficult for me to do, but today I am announcing the retirement of the RMCU.
If you would have asked me back in 2016 “When do you plan on ending the RMCU?” my answer would have been never. I loved running the group so much, and I enjoyed the chance to be someone different in roleplays, namely the character of Steve Rogers that I’ve always been able to relate to on a very deep level. I enjoyed pushing myself to develop gear for every character, and a map for every occasion. If I’m being honest, I even enjoyed the problems and drama that kept arising because it meant there was a new problem for me to solve and a new challenge for the group to overcome. That in itself was another thing that that drove me to keep making the group better: all the people that said I couldn’t.
The reason that I’ve chosen now to retire the group is not because I do not enjoy these things anymore. I still love learning new things and I plan to reteach myself Roblox development for my own personal hobby. The reason that I’m retiring the group now is the same reason that my friend handed it over to me back in 2016. I do not have the time to do what the group needs.
I’ve always kept my real life very private, you never know who is reading what you’re writing on the internet and I’ve made more than my fair share of enemies over the years. Now I do feel like I owe a bit of an “explanation” though. Back in 2016 I was a homeschooled kid that wasn’t great with people and had never worked a full day in my life. Now I am done with school, work a full time job as a General Manager, and have made friends that will stick with me the rest of my life. I managed to still run the group during school and always thought that, once I was out of school, it would free up the time to do everything with the group that I had always wanted. However, coming out of school landed me in a full time job and zero time for anything else.
Bottom line, I am unable to do what the RMCU needs. I do not have time to run the group and I no longer have the knowledge to make it the best. It took me a long time to realize that but now that I have it would not be fair to anyone for me to keep trying to keep the group limping along until it inevitably dies beyond revival. I have spoken with Danny and Peter, both of whom feel the exact same way. It’s been a blast, but it’s time to move on.
The Future
The group is going to remain open, as well as the store and all of the clothing in it. I still enjoy making suits as a form of art, and will continue to occasionally upload suits because that’s what I enjoy. The Discord will be closed to new members, but will remain open to anyone that is already in it so that any friendships that have formed there can continue using it as a place to discuss Marvel and whatever else is relevant at the time. The group games will also remain open so that if anyone wants a decent map to roleplay in they will be able to. Maybe one day distant in the future, Danny, Parker, and I may decide to restart the group in a different way, and if that day comes I hope to see you all there with us.
Credits
Every Marvel movie has credits so it wouldn’t be fair to not thank the people that helped us get this far.
PhilJCoulson was the original founder of the group, and the one that trusted a nobody with it way back in 2016. I’ll never be able to thank him enough for giving me the opportunity to be the person that I am today.
Logan was my co-owner from 2017 to 2019. He’s the one that really made me start hosting consistently and is responsible for a ton of the growth and activity that the RMCU had for those first years. He was also one of my best friends and words can’t describe how grateful I am for him being that friend in a very difficult period of my life.
Parker came along as a stupid kid that joined the group because his older brother was in it. He’s turned into my closest and most trusted friend and has helped the RMCU through more rough patches than anyone should have to. He’s still pretty stupid at times, but I’ve watched him grow into someone that I would trust with almost anything. Worthy of a gold star.
Danny has been the one running the group for the last year. He’s also the reason I disabled “Anyone can follow you into a game” back when I’d be on Jailbreak in 2018. He used to annoy me, from his OC character “Natureboy” to the fact that he got under every member’s skin for some reason. Now he only annoys me when his squeaky voice gets into a VC, and in a different time would have ended up taking the group over for me. In reality, he’s always been there for whatever the group needs and I couldn’t imagine trying to run it without him (even though he quit like 7 times.)
Tony was the 3iC for a while but ultimately left after I had my first span of inactivity. Even though he left, he was responsible for keeping the group alive for a long time, as well as most of the new ideas we rolled out. Similarly to Logan back in 2017, he kept me motivated to make the group better in a time where I had mostly lost that motivation.
Jack_Sky is the one that opened my eyes to what Roblox development could be for the group, and he pushed me to whole new levels to discover what I was capable of when I was in Studio.
Blake and I did not always see eye to eye. In fact we rarely did and he was involved in some of the darkest times of the RMCU. I will however always be grateful to him for teaching me to finish out my clothing designs and giving me those first shading templates. He helped turn an idea into a form of expression for me that I don’t plan on quitting anytime soon.
Symbiotic I haven’t honestly known that long, but he’s made me push myself in terms of clothing design to do things that I didn’t think I was capable of doing.
Thank you to all of the admins throughout the years. Regardless of how they left or how long they stayed, they helped make the group what it is and were responsible for some of the best plots and roleplays that people in the Marvel genre had seen.
Thank you to all the members who have stuck with us this long. All of you are the RMCU and even though I didn’t know most of you personally, but we wouldn’t have had roleplays without you all.
I can’t wait to see what the future holds. As a great man once said, Excelsior.
