Metal grate optimisation (repeating mesh pattern)

  • What are you attempting to achieve? (Keep it simple and clear)
Trying to make a metal grate

  • What is the issue? (Keep it simple and clear - Include screenshots/videos/GIFs if possible)

This grate exists out of all parts, preferably I want it optimised to 1 part with minimal triangles

  • What solutions have you tried so far? (Have you searched for solutions through the Roblox Wiki yet?)
Too many triangles to Union it all and I doubt works efficiently since it’s still 1 mesh, also tried it with Blender using Array modifiers but the triangle count is over the limit for meshes. Preferably it would be a repeating mesh but I’ve found no way to do something like that in Blender or in Roblox for that matter

very easy. invis part and decals.

Use a repeating texture! You could easily make the pattern on image editing software.

i wanted to make a feature request on this type of thing (that allows you to make a 3d repeating texture of a given mesh) but i dont have feature request perms -_-

I want it to be 3d, not 2d, thx for the replies though

You can still achieve a 3D effect with decals, not much of a better way of doing this, if you specifically want it to be in parts then use fewer parts with bigger gaps.

since its made up of cubes it shouldn’t be very high unless you’re making each of the individual squares in the grate using multiple cubes

i checked it out in blender and it came up to just over 1000 tris

Hello my name is IAmRealTank but you can call me Tank for short. First think I would like to say is I don’t think you said the reason on why you want to make it as low triangles as possible. Is it because you want less lag? Do you want to bypass the 10K triangle limit? Or something else? Because you reduce lag you can use decals but somebody already said that and you said you wanted it to be 3D. You could also make it out of low poly objects like cubes or low poly sticks. If you wanted to get pass the 10K triangle limit then you can use bulk import which can support up to 50K triangles. But to be honest would having this much triangles even lag the game? I don’t know actually. But yeah hope this helps.

no its just that it can make things like making fences or shutters a LOT easier from a single mesh unlike the other method where u have to copy paste everything MANY TIMES ( both methods have equal lag so i dont see ur point )

3 Ways:

1: Slightly Optimized:
Make it in blender/ decimate modifer

2:Slightly Optimized, but easier:
Union the parts

3:Very Optimized:
Make a plane in blender, make a texture, and then you only have 2 faces
