Model Breaking system

So I’m trying to make a game similar to build a boat for treasure, however I’d like to know what would be the best way to make the boat break part by part whenever it touches an object

I’m thinking of making objects listen for touched and if its a part of boat then unweld the part that touched the object from the boat, would it be the best way to make this system?

unless you jsut want the objects to evaporate, then you should just destroy them
