Moderators need to give us more information when they answer our reports against posts

As a Devforum Member, i feel that we don’t have enough information from the moderators when we ask moderation for a post. Let’s take an example here:

I found a reply saying “pee”, yeah. And i report the reply for moderator attention, well, a moderator can reply us in 3 different ways:

Thanks for letting us know. We agree there is an issue and we’re looking into it.
Thanks for letting us know. We agree there is an issue and we’ve removed the post.
Thanks for letting us know. We’re looking into it.

However, those three replies are very ambiguous in many ways. Let’s take the example that the Moderators didn’t do anything with the post, normally i get the third answer shown before, however, that’s not a very smart reply, we need more information of why the post wasn’t taken down, a better way to answer would be something like this:

Thanks for letting us know. We agree there is an issue in the post: pee. However, the post was made in the Fake Off-Topic Category, which means that the post is not breaking any rule.

Now, let’s take an example that the moderators did something, normally we get the first and second answer shown before, however, we don’t get enough information about what the moderators did with the post, for example: If they took down the post, a better way to answer this would be something like this:

Thanks for letting us know. We agree there is an issue in the post: pee. We have hidden the post.

If this post is heard from the forum leaders and this gets added in the forum, my forum member experience would improve because i would be more informed about the actions taken against the post.

Thanks for reading.

I agree but, if you look at the DevForum moderating staff, there isn’t many. With the ammount of reports they get they probably have had to simple it down to a simple answer. They are doing a amazing job at answering as soon as possible though.

I agree, they just send a automatic generated messages for you to wait or we’re looking into this issue. Even tho, this messages are good to say us because they notify us that they’re looking into this issue. The main problem is that they don’t respond about this if that issue was solved or not.

Cant emphasise this enough, ive got replies in under a minute before to my flags, the detail provided in the message isn’t exactly important.

These are default Discourse system messages whenever a moderator processes a flag in the review menu. Moderators never actually open a message to write this response, and if multiple people flag a post, all of those responses are sent simultaneously (multiple flags addressed at once) to save time.

I don’t want forum moderators to have to type out personalized responses to flag messages. It’s also very hard to automatically infer any more complicated response from the information used in Discourse’s review system since the moderator only really hits an “Approve” / “Deny” / “Ignore” button and then sends a slightly personalized canned message to the offending poster(s).

I tend to flag posts a lot and these automated messages don’t really bother me, that being said I do know how this is implemented so I can see why it might be annoying to someone who doesn’t know how the review system works in the back-end.

They already do give more information, if you respond back to either one of those three messages. You get a reply from a real person.

Sometimes they don’t: (Changed Moderator’s username to nil)

If they don’t reply back you could reach out to @DevEngagementTeam about it. If you reply to the message you have to wait for that particular moderator to come on shift again, and even then they might miss or overlook your ping since it is just 1 person and they each get a lot of notifications.

I personally feel like moderators don’t owe the reporter any details whatsoever. They do not report to you. It’s nice to have a response, but I’m sure with the volume here that will be considered a luxury.

I have higher requirements for the Roblox report portal however. :zipper_mouth_face:

I think that’s on purpose since you asked something that can easily be answered either in public or in private with a Sage.

If you’re replying about something important, like you want to talk about a warning or a punishment you got, that’s when you’ll get a response back.

I personally experience something different. Sometimes I get notifications from system that my post was deleted by a staff. And that the community flagged it. I once asked someone from dev engagement team and they told me that it was done for housekeeping. A reply I replied to was deleted so my reply lost context. It feels kinda misleading to say the community flagged it when that was not the case. But I understand the messages was automated
