More categories

The issue.

As a regular developer forum user (not as in the trust level) I find many people making topics in #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback when in turn, they are asking questions. I also see many people posting things that aren’t related to roblox in #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback which can be confusing for some people as they point out that the post should be taken down when in return it never gets taken down, and for rightful reasons as it’s not off-topic at all.

The solution.

For this issue, I present a simple solution to add more categories, similar to how https://blenderartists.org/ has done.
They have an entire category dedicated to only creations and such and I think having this for the forum would be pretty amazing.

Here is my idea:

  • Add a new category named Creations with 7 sub-categories named:

  • Art work (Can include GFX, GUI designs, thumbnail, icons, etc.)

  • Game feedback (Stuff like showcasing games.)

  • Modelling feedback (Stuff like builds and models can go here.)

  • Code Review (Moving #help-and-feedback:code-review from #help-and-feedback to this new #creations.)

  • Focused Critique (Focused on simply getting critiques on improving one’s project. This category should be focused on giving high quality feedback and not stuff like: “It’s bad” or “It’s amazing, how long did it take you to make?”.

  • Other Creations (For stuff that aren’t directly related to roblox. This category would be useful as I see sometimes people posting stuff that is not going to be used in roblox in #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback.)

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • No more spam in the #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback topic regarding questions.
  • More flexibility for users to see creations they want to see.
  • Ability to get actual critiques rather than simple compliments on ones work.
  • No more confusion about projects that aren’t related to Roblox.

Cons

Proposed plan for cons:

  • Before posting in a category, new users should have a pop up which would redirect them to the categories rule page. Explaining how it should be used.

  • Move all #help-and-feedback:creations-feedback topics into a new locked category with the same name under the new #creations category. Some sub-category like “#creations:creations-feedback” would do just fine.

  • I am in full support of this idea.
  • I do not support this idea at all. (Explain why.)

I don’t personally see this is necessary considering as you mentioned, we already have a sub-category for this.

I don’t quite see the point in making one category and several sub-categories just for feedback on creations. I will admit that the category was less confusing when it was called “Cool Creations” instead of “Creations Feedback” though.

The point is to prevent spam.
Making an extra category is also not hard. It doesn’t require some rocket science to make and so can be a viable option. It will also make the forum more diverse.

Having one single sub category is also not enough for the amount of different topics and so this can be useful.

I hope now you can understand the use and support this feature.

It also allows for more customization and such.

I’m well aware of that.

I’d have to know what activity is like at peak times, but it doesn’t look that bad to me personally from having a quick look at it. You can use tags if you want to boost discoverability too.

I definitely get some of what you’re referring to regarding spam though with seeing two topics that probably belong in other categories in that screenshot.

Activity may not be too much at peak times but that’s not what I am referring to in the quote. I am talking about there being too little amount of categories on the forum. They also lack context which makes people misunderstand them all the time.
Tags are not comparable with categories. Most users don’t even consider using them. But, using categories is mandatory thus giving this feature a use.
