Main:
As a Roblox developer, this isn’t a huge issue or anything but more of a desire for the website. I think a lot of people would like to see more updated Roblox verified badges added to the site because back in the day that was an indication of status. The more you had, the more status was on your name and I think a lot of the RBXDev members would like to see a RBXDev badge added as well instead of just being in the group. There’s an endless possibility of badges that users could earn.
Badge Suggestions: (I came up w/ these off the top of my head, don’t judge (; )
Extending Outdated Badges (New Gamer Badges for 1000 kills, 10,000 kills, etc).
Catalog Enthusiast Badge (For users who have bought 100, 200, 300+, etc items from the catalog).
Friended Out Badge (For users who have achieved the max amount of friends).
Popular Badge (For users who have gained over 1000, 10,000+, etc followers).
RBXDev Badge (For users who are apart of the RBXDev community).
Big Time Investor (For users who have at one point had a limited RAP of over 10K, 100K, etc).
THE IDEAS ARE LIMITLESS!!!
In The End:
I think this would improve the site by a long shot, making users interact more with the website itself instead of just the games. It’d also give users the chance to have more of a ‘status’ in the community because they were able to achieve those badges.
It’s a good idea, but the main problem here is that a lot of the suggestions aren’t fundamentally what Roblox is about.
Is it really a good idea to provoke kids to send as many friend requests as possible?
This is sort of misleading. R$ from trading and selling items can’t be exchanged for real money, meaning you’re just sinking a ton of money into items, not investing in them. Plus, I think that limiteds are being neglected in an attempt to eventually phase them out, so this badge wouldn’t make a lot of sense.
I definitely appreciate and support the idea of more badges, I just think these suggestions have the wrong goals in mind. I’d much rather see badges for development-related things like visit counts, or number of signup invocations.
You’re totally right, just some badge ideas I thought about off the top of my head!!!
You get the idea though, there’s so many great ways to approach this.
(Also there’s some people who care more about trading and gaining RAP than exchanging for USD).
This has been discussed on this forum before and shot down multiple times due to the fact that membership in the DevForums is not supposed to be an official symbol of status in the ROBLOX community.
I believe all the badges should just be development/play milestones - similar to how the achievements here work, except with more to do with Roblox.
Examples:
one that would be good would be similar to the ‘visit X days in a row’
get X revenue from your games
reach 1 million visits on one of your games
become a verified model creator (wait this was left to die, was’t it?)
However the general downside to this system would be lots of people creating stuff specifically to get the badges (e.g. making a game to farm robux and do nothing else).
Speaking of badges… 7/15 are are unobtainable(Im counting admin and model maker)
Not that there should be hundred of badges available for players to earn but a greater than 50% accessibility rate would be nice
I don’t like this whole idea that seems to be driven by nostalgia and the need for additional status.
Making these badges to the site won’t do anything useful to the general audience on Roblox and may foster toxicity due to it acting as a status symbol.
If you want users to explore the site more, resources can be spent on improving site UI/UX.
I like badges. They’re cool. However, I think the ones for Roblox are pretty pointless currently, and any future ones would just be cancerous to the community. I know how much people actually cheated into badges. (Example: Ambassador & Inviter via making new accounts.) Personally I’d like to see the old badges done away with, tbh.
What I personally think would be cooler is activity badges.
So, if you logged in during 2011, you get the 2011 Badge.
If you logged in during 2012, you get the 2012 Badge. And so on. This would be useful to show how long a user has actively been with the site.
I like the idea of Roblox adding more verified badges, however, I think I would prefer a new badge system similar to Steam.
Roblox could instead offer badges with maybe one or tasks and then badges with multiple tasks. For an example of a badge with multiple tasks, it could require a user to enable 2-step verification, making a trade, adding a friend, joining a group, and rating a game. A badge like this would encourage users to purchase builders club to trade, get involved with the community, and increase their account security.
