Multiple Players on Local Server (Testing)

  1. What do you want to achieve? Test my game with multiple local Players

  2. What is the issue?

  3. What solutions have you tried so far? I tried to look for related topics, could´t find anything tho. Probably because I don´t know how to name this feature-

After a long time, I came back to Roblox Studio only to see that they have a new UI. I found out how to navigate in it pretty fast but I got stuck at testing my games on a local server with multiple players. To be clear: I don´t know how to set a player amount I want to test my game with. Every time I click on the Start Server button, it starts a local server and one local player. My question now is, how do change the player amount in this new UI? Thank you for your time!

A local server is just for you. If you want to test on roblox studio with other players you can do team test. Just click on where it says local server and change it.

To test with other players (like your friends or other developers) you’ll have to do the following:

  1. Go to the “TEST” Tab. It should be at the top bar.

  2. Select “local server” and change it to "team test

  3. Click Start and your problem should be solved!

Yeah thats the old Studio UI. But I was wondering if there is a way to do this in the new UI where you don´t have a Test-Tab? And I am talking about the “Local Server” selection where you can set the player amount btw. Not Team Test. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Thank you for your answer!

Hey for anyone stumbling on this as I did, and got confused trying to locate it from the old studio

If you are using Next Gen Studio

Hotkey

You can just use the hotkey F7 to start server+clients. Unknown if this worked in the original preview.

UI Based

There should actually be a dropdown next to the button, if not you may need to update your studio to the latest preview. (It looks like this was not originally in the Next Gen Studio, but must’ve been added as they’ve been changing it)

You can then switch it to Server & Clients, then you can specify the number of clients

Alternatively… New Tab

You can also just outright create a new tab, if you’d like to keep the old behavior.

Just press + next to the existing tabs. I’ve already created my own Test tab in this screenshot.

Then you can right-click the empty area and press Add Tools

Then you’ll want Server & Clients

The downside being that this will always start the server with the # of clients specified in the dropdown mentioned earlier

LOVE seeing the custom tabs and shortcuts called out. I really think the more creators are aware of these options, they won’t miss that old UI for very long.
