Throwing my hat into the ring too with seemingly innocent words/phrases being filtered. A group I develop for called Vuga is totally filtered across the site and in-game.
We’ve had to get around it by adding a hyphen or a space in-between the word whenever we use it on group walls, in chat, game descriptions, etc.
That workaround has been anything but, because people aren’t finding our group or our game due to the word “Vuga” being filtered during search requests.
Like OP stated when they made the thread, I can’t see why this is being filtered. It was a word our dev team made up that doesn’t mean anything.
I think this is why my group’s name “Analemma” is suddenly being filtered, so I can’t even use it anywhere on Roblox. Must be strict enough to filter an entire word if there’s a blacklisted word in it (ex. Analytics)
i noticed they censor the word “damn” a lot more lately. might be intentional, but it was becoming integral to my vocabulary
on a funnier note, for some reason if you say “olivia rodrigo”, any more messages you post for the next 20-ish chats, regardless of context or content, will be completely tagged. me and my sister were messing around and noticed this, pretty weird lol
edit: i also did notice that links to the devforum, specifically bulletin boards, were getting censored in game descriptions. the only way to combat it would be to somehow shorten it or be lucky enough to, well, not get censored.
Recently, I have experienced one that I find very odd. The sentence “I muted them” (even including specific pronouns like “him” or “her”) gets filtered out. I could only say it when I changed it to “I set them to mute”.
Most of the time typing my friend’s username/displayname “Reagan” it tags most entire sentences with it, like saying “OMG Reagan” might work/is fine but saying with a long sentence tags entierly.
And even tags some numbers, how we’re supposed to talk with numbers like how much money u have/made in a game like 63,993 might tag it
Things I’ve noticed in particular are phrases like
“damn” which we’ve had for years, why filter it now? It’s been fine for so long but now it’s filtered?
“What I thought” is filtered 100% of the time, what is wrong with “what I thought?”
This is ridiculous.
There’s lots of other phrases that recently have been flagged, but no one knows what they are, so when we’re talking with each other in game, and our entire sentence is flagged, it is extremely annoying. Especially when you consider that what we are saying does not break TOS, and should not be flagged.
If ROBLOX is going to boast about AI tech, let’s make sure it doesn’t make the systems worse for users who are already struggling to have conversations with an already heavy handed filter, thanks
Currently, as of right now, the following common words I have noticed are consistently filtered:
Cuckoo
Spoon
Scooter (is still filtered as I earlier mentioned)
Therapist (as someone else earlier someone)
Supervisor (as someone else earlier someone)
Virtually any number in any form is often filtered, still including asset IDs.
Edit: When the month flipped, I already started to find new issues with more new words consistently:
Crap
Screw
Is the filter supposed to get exponentially worse every month? I feel like this has been the case for a few months now.
I can also agree with some others in this thread, that this is simply far too strict of a filter model that both users (chat) and developers (assets) should have to face. Having this type of response time, to get what should be very simple yet problematic issues (for the consistent words) resolved isn’t great either.
There’s so much in terms of common phrases that are filtered as well, as I’ve mentioned. It’d be really nice if we could go back to the old filter. It was not this bad before.
The filter seems to snowball as well - first a word, then a few words, then entire sentences. It almost feels like there’s a cooldown there before you can type again without hashes.
This has been bothering me too. I’m searching for audio in Roblox’s marketplace via Studio, and words Patience and Puzzle are tagged immediately. Why can I not search for these terms?!?!??!
