yesterday at around 6PM GMT on december 10th my account was falsely terminated for “You created or used an account to avoid an enforcement action taken against another account” and first of all, I haven’t even logged into any other accounts besides mine for years. this only happened because I was using a VPN - this is what caused other people to get banned the same way - while it is my fault for using one in the first place, it is not my fault that roblox’s AI moderation randomly decided that I am a war criminal and banned me because of someone else’s actions. I have been using one on and off for years without any issues until yesterday, I use mullvad which is a paid vpn so it’s crazier to me that someone else on a paid vpn was doing malicious acts, other people who got affected by this were using free vpns which is more expected but anyway Roblox should not assume people are evading bans. this also seems to be a domino effect because people using the same vpn seemed to get banned at the same time so if one person misbehaves, everyone else gets the punishment.
I also wanna know what makes them think my main account is an alt when
I own a group with 80k members
I am a developer for a group with 85k members
no longer a developer for them but I was also a contributor for a group with 558k members
I have used devex many times
my account was made in 2014
I have been ID VERIFIED since 2021
I have a clean moderation history besides a few warnings over the years
I have 220k followers (I admit most were botted by someone but most of them are legitimate I checked)
I have 20m visits on my profile and I have contributed to around 40m total
I have participated in a lot of dev rel events and worked directly with roblox staff to report bugs and get them fixed
I have 1.7m value in limiteds
I am not trying to act entitled here, but I’m just pointing out that my account clearly isn’t an alt by their definition which is what the ai thinks I’m assuming
I don’t think I should’ve reported this as a bug, but technically it is a bug in the sense of faulty ai moderation abusing its power, but this needs to be seen by staff so it can be resolved asap.
also as I speak, models I uploaded in 2015-2019 are being purged for “misusing roblox systems” so not only did this make me lose my account, its also wiping everything which is worrying to me because roblox is everything to me and it seems like when my account gets unbanned i’m gonna have to take extra steps just to recover important assets
I am currently appealing and if that gets denied I contacted people who may be able to help me by reaching out to roblox staff to help me out but damn this is gonna be a pain to tackle
this has been happening to other people for the past month too (earliest recorded case in november 2023 but it only recently started reoccuring) so if my case gets resolved, please help out other people who got affected by this, they deserve justice too
im not sure how long it will take for all of us to get our accounts restored but an admin liked my post and another admin responded to my dm so fingers crossed
They apparently did nothing and got an Enforcement ban. I assume this has something to do with their IP or VPN or anything related to that, so I would like to ask roblox staff that check this post to also look into them, and pssibly fix this ban for the future. It’s happening to a lot of people who seemingly did nothing.
I know sometimes it can be a real ban, but agian, I think this situation still needs a little more investigation
im not an expert on this type of stuff but im pretty sure the best way they can implement this properly is to use more precise data like hardware and browser, then maybe an ip address reputation system. they can also look at login history to figure out if it was a vpn or if they genuinely were ban evading, if someone frequently changes ip addresses then they are likely using a vpn, the ip they use the most is probably their real one
I’ve had multiple friends as far as 8 months back receive an enforcement ban for seemingly no reason. The ban note / rejected appeals provide no concrete information as to what they did wrong specifically, but the only thing it seemed like they had in common was connecting to a public wifi a couple of days before. I’m uncertain if this has anything to do with the enforcement ban but it was the only thing we could brainstorm as to why it happened. I’ve known @daaaawey for a long time and they have never used a VPN, no alts were terminated prior, and they haven’t ban evaded, yet they were seemingly nuked off the platform with no explanation.
Enforcement bans are done mostly through account email (including old ones), billing email, browser cookie, and logging on accounts in the Roblox app (PC and Mobile). IP isn’t used for enforcement bans.
Keep in mind that if you were ever compromised, the email that the compromiser added isn’t cleared from your account history, and if one of the accounts that were linked to the compromiser’s email was terminated then you will also be terminated.
When appealing, there is a specific appeal moderator named “Benjamin” that does provide you the account that was linked to you. I’m not sure if you can ask for him specifically, but I’ve seen multiple people be told what the terminated account was from him.
no other accounts on my email are banned, i havent logged into any other accounts on this browser or on the app. this is clearly a mistake on roblox’s end since multiple people have been getting banned in the past 3 weeks. i guarantee that if they told me what account they think is mine will be unrelated to me
roblox could very easily just check the ASN associated with the IP to determine with relatively high accuracy whether any given IP block is residential, or in a datacenter, or a Tor exit node/VPN etc…
i’m assuming they probably do already to be honest. just don’t know where that fits into their enforcement of account bans
edit: to be clear ASNs only give you the company owning the lease on said IP block. there’s many other methods used to try and detect whether any given IP is a “privacy” one
every account ive ever spent money on that isnt my main is not banned
every account that uses the same email as my main is not banned
every account i have used in the past is not banned
they can’t even tell me who they think I am the alt of which proves that I did nothing wrong
Although it is also good to consider that it can happen like me, that I did not know that guy until a week ago. Where I discovered that it connects from Jalisco, Mexico, and I from Lima, Peru.
Keep insisting and ask to be put on a supervisor, do it before 30 days, or they will come to you with the excuse that they will not be able to do anything.
