My mesh in Blender has slightly odd shading... How do I fix it?

Hi everybody, I’m currently modelling a small aircraft (Cessna 152) for my work-in-progress flight simulator, however I am finding some weird shading on the mesh which I can’t seem to fix:

It is happening on another face of the mesh too:

Here’s the images with vertices if it helps too:

I’ve used the edge split modifier and auto smooth, however it hasn’t helped.
What is going on and how can I fix this? Thanks!

Hello!

I guess it’s because of the loopcuts. Try shading it smooth and turning on the auto smooth. If it’s not working after shading smooth, then add a subdivision surface modifier. This modifier smoothens the mesh without add extra triangles. Adding this modifier may change the shape of the mesh. To change that, Edge Crease the necessary loopcuts. Edge Creasing them will get them back to their normal shape.

Hope this helps you.

Hi, thanks for your response. I’ve just tried these on the mesh and they don’t seem to have fixed it. If anything, it’s made the weird shading even more noticable.

Oh, Try Beveling the loopcut maybe? Can I have some pictures of the mesh after applying the modifier?

I don’t use Discord, but I’ve got some screenshots for you here:

As you can see, it’s done some very questionable things (including adding holes in the mesh).
I still have auto smooth and shade smooth on.

Hm. How about your try beveling the loopcuts? I mean, remove the subdivision and then bevel the loopcut which is causing that odd shading.

Just tried that… here’s the result.

I might be bevelling it wrong so please let me know lol
on the other hand it did fix the shading

Select the loopcut which is causing it and change the selection mode to vertices and then try beveling it. Add more segments to smoothen it. If its not working, try changing the pivot point. Or you could maybe dissolve the vertices or add more loopcuts to smoothen it. This is all I know. I’m sorry if I couldn’t help you.

Alright, thank you. I might redo the mesh because it didn’t take too long to do and then I’ll see if there’s any more problems.

edit: yes it works now :sunglasses:
