Hello, I recently published my new game called Guess The Emoji Obby! on which I worked about 1 month. (The only other game I made before is Black Hole Simulator, which performed really well as my first game)
Have said that, I don’t understand why my newer and most polished game isn’t performing well, despite its stats being better than Black Hole simulator.
I already ran 7k of ads but those didn’t manage to give me an algorithm boost since ads audience is not fit for my game (I can only target 13+ users w ads, compared to my ideal audience which is <9)
The stats
Session Time = 3.7 minutes (low because of low ccus)
D1 Retention = 6%
Don’t have other stats cause the game is kinda new
Could someone try to explain me because my game is “failing”? Is it normal that I’m not getting Home Recommendations yet? Thanks!
I’m no expert on this but the “guess the…” trend is long gone. On top of that the premise of the first game “black hole” is much more interesting then emojis due to the saturation of it.
Besides that I can’t provide any information
Good luck though!
As SaintImmor said, the “guess the …” trend is pretty much gone and most people are not interested in those types of games
Along with that, after playing for a few minutes, most people would get bored because it doesn’t catch the interests for most 13+ players. Since you’re not able to really advertise too much with ads and other sites like discord for players under the age of 9, it would kind of become hard to get this game up and running.
If possible, I would probably try to get in the contact with some younger audience YouTubers who could possibly advertise your game so that you could get more players.
Edit: Also yes, it is normal that you’re not getting home recommendations yet
Fellow developers, thanks for the advices lol. The question I’m now asking you is: will my game be shown I’m home recommendations anytime soon or nope because it has bad stats?
Since ads aren’t worth for my game the only thing that can save my game is roblox, recommending it to the younger audience by itself. Will this ever happen?
Cause if that won’t happen I already got some offers to buy the game for 200k robux, which is a decent amount but nothing compared to the amount the game could generate… Thanks
I forgot to mention at the beginning of the game there are two gui frames that overlap and it looks weird you should fix that or make them both the same size
I’d dub this “the small dev curse”. As someone who’s been on the platform for years, I’ve witnessed (and experienced) game after game failing to gain traction, despite great gameplay and design.
While I cannot vouch about your gameplay, I’d advise you to just keep it up. Focus your efforts on upping the stats, so the algorithm has a chance to pick it up. It’s all about the algorithm.
Thanks man, I started getting home recommendations but only 200 for a day then it dropped bruh. Session time is still 3.7 mins and retention is terrible. I think I should definitely sell the game for 200k as it is a decent amount
Before you sell, try advertising on the Developer Hub. When I was promoting our team’s game, WillyEdison’s Microgames, I tried nearly everything - paid sponsors on Roblox, trying to understand the algorithm, etc. The sponsoring didn’t work long-term and the algorithm was too mysterious with no documentation at the time.
Then I found this place, the Developer Hub - it’s basically a digital mall where you can claim your own storefront and share your game with other players! It’s been so helpful for promoting our game - just claim a storefront, customize it, then use the speaker megaphone to the left of your store to announce it to others. Keep at it for and eventually someone may very well play your game!
Give the Developer Hub a try, it’s surprisingly useful!
