I’ve started some moderate advertising and things are far from excellent in terms of natural growth. It’s a largely player-driven game, benefiting from servers of 10+ I would guess. Those who stick around seem to say great things about it and keep coming back to play. They seem to appreciate that it is original and challenging.
Currently I am asking questions as to whether the Roblox playerbase has troubles with the slower pace of the game and the punishing nature of dying to another player (rage quits seem to happen commonly).
However, I ultimately don’t hear from the people who leave after a short visit, which is the lion’s share. Surely they have issues with the game, and although I watch them along their journey from joining to disconnecting, there is only so much that I can glean from their silent movements. So I was looking for some negative feedback and advice if anyone is gracious enough to give me some.
Hello, your game is very unique and I like the concept behind it, however I did find some issues that could result in players leaving the game shortly after arriving:
During the tutorial, it is possible for homosapien tutorial players to be killed by monkeys with sticks which would possibly annoy newer players resulting in them leaving the game, this issue happened to me when I tried to play so I assume it has happened a lot to other players as well.
Maybe make players in tutorial unkillable?
The game is too dark, the building you arrive in is bland looking. I also think your game could benefit from music to make the playerbase less bored and less likely to leave, you have to consider that the majority of Roblox’s playerbase are under 13s and in the current state of the game, it would not appeal to them.
During the tutorial you are forced to go to several trees to pick up a few bananas which takes a bit of time, only to then walk slowly back to the palace bank to repeat a boring process. Maybe add upgrades to the game to increase the speed of which the monkey moves at, considering there is mathematic pyramids I don’t think it would be a stretch to add cars or UFOs or something like that.
This is just simply confusing and complicated for absolutely no reason whatsoever, some of the tutorial text (though I know it is meant to be funny and monke) just doesn’t make sense to do with the pet part of the tutorial. If I was developing this I would expect people to leave after seeing this when trying to open a pet.
I like what you have so far and I hope your issues can be solved with a few changes to your game
Overall I like the game. It’s simple yet entertaining. However, there definitely needs to be more content added as it is quite small currently. Also, the map is like a maze, it took me ~10 minutes to find my way back to spawn, most likely a reason people leave the game shortly. I also suggest that you teleport a new player to a dedicated map for the tutorial, instead of having them in the mix with everyone else.
You might also want to make a new icon/thumbnail as it’s not aesthetically pleasing, although it’s not a huge factor for player count.
Tutorial players are now shielded from PvP, to address that doubly mentioned issue. P-Pet mathematics is now hidden from tutorial players, but they can run into that later once used to the game. A new thumbnail video has been created to rapidly inform people what gameplay looks like. Plenty of other things have been done as well since then, but these address some of the concerns above.
