Native Support for Apple Silicon: Better Performance and Improved Battery Life

does this work for window users?

This might be because you’re still on the Intel version. You might want to try @mrparker_lol’s solution above to get the Apple Silicon version. Remember that this will only work if your computer runs on Apple Silicon - to see how to check whether you’re running Apple Silicon, go to the top bar and click on the Apple logo → About This Mac → Overview. If you are running Apple Silicon, the “Chip” section should include Apple M1 or Apple M2 (with Pro, Max, etc. at the end on some models). It is compulsory to know what chip your computer has if you want to use the Apple Silicon version.

Unfortunately not, this version is targeted for Mac users with Apple Silicon devices (devices using M1/M2 chips).

I know that this is a good update for most people, but I never experienced unsatisfactory performance on my Macbook Pro. I could run anything in Studio and in-game. Is it because it’s an M1 or am I lucky?

The post is called “Apple Silicon”. Apple silicon is an ARM CPU, windows has their own ARM but with differences and windows ARM isn’t that popular rather Windows x64 and x86. And windows devices don’t go under POSIX so alot of the APIs are missing, if you were even to port it over to windows arm (somehow) it would still not work.

i have used a base M1 as well as an M2 and performance has always been good even through the Rosetta translation layer. Having a native build will just build upon the already good performance, especially in terms of battery life.

I went out and bought a computer because of how buggy studio was on mac, now I may just have to go back to developing on mac for this. Thank you roblox devs!

The performance increase with Studio is night and day. I can finally ditch my Windows setup completely and work solely on my Mac. :sparkling_heart:

Big props to all the engineers that worked on this.

Wow, Roblox has truly involved over these past couples of years, not only as the game and platform but as a community!

Roblox has outdone itself introducing new innovations, studio features & updates, major support for users and developing easier tools to improve Roblox studio. I’m so excited for this feature and new future Roblox developers!

Are there any plans to add an official macOS style app icon for the mac build of the player and studio in the future?

Something akin to one of these community versions:

I’ve made some icons for both Roblox and the studio as png files feel free to use them!

they look like this when put in the dock

This is actually amazing to see, one thing I wish which would make this just a bit better would be to update the icon of Roblox Studio to match the rounded app Icon

Something I’ve been waiting to see for a while now, and would be beneficial towards Apple Silicon users. Thank you for updating this.

How did you get it, when I download it from the creator page, I get the Intel version?

Just to clarify if anyone is unsure, this means the chip is Apple M_ (I put “_” because I expect they will eventually have an M3 and so on). The Apple Silicon chips also include the M1 Pro they showed in the image along with M2 Pro, M1 Max, M2 Max, M1 Ultra and M2 Ultra.

I’d absolutely love if we could get some MacOS stylized Roblox and Roblox Studio icons somewhat soon, I’ve been using unofficial ones and they just don’t feel right knowing it’s just me with them.

This is great for us, but when will the native support for Apple Silicon be fully rolled out? I’m still using the Intel build even after redownloading Roblox.
