Need Advice on Budgeting for My Apocalyptic Survival Game Development and Advertising

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in the early stages of developing an apocalyptic survival game that’s a bit like Days Gone. The idea is that players will need to survive through different days, scavenging for items, customizing their loadouts, and dealing with various challenges along the way.

Since we’re still early in development, I’m trying to figure out how much I should budget for both development and advertising. I’m working with a small team of devs (includes building, modelling scripting and some not too great but alright ui) , so I’m curious—what do you all think is a reasonable amount to allocate for things like hiring developers, getting assets, and all the other costs that come with building a game like this?

Also, when it comes time to launch, I want to make sure we have a solid advertising plan. How much do you think is necessary to spend on ads to give the game a good boost at launch? I’m thinking about using things like sponsored placements and banner ads, but I’m open to suggestions.

Only planning on releasing on pc then taking it to console if it does well.

Would love to hear your thoughts and any advice you might have not only about the budgeting but about the game instead

Yes, you should use ads to gain popularity. However, you need to allocate your ad spending over a long period of time and not miss one day (else roblox algorithm cooks you). I’d suggest splitting it over a 2 weeks-month or so, depending on your engagement. After that, you can let the people do the work for you.

One of my previous employers spent ~$300 on the game and 70k robux on advertisment, but he only ran the ads for a week then left the game to pursue another game, so this is all I can tell you.

if you can tell us the name of the game would be nice
