Idea:
Picture this, you are a general in the imperial army. You have command over 10 infantrymen, 5 cannons, and 3 cavalrymen. You position your troops in hilltop locations to give them more range, in front of you is an open field which the enemy will have to cross in order to attack your troops. So, when your opponent sends a single cavalryman against your line, you do not hesitate to order your infantry to open fire, knowing they gain a +20% modifier to attack due to their formation. The cavalry is instantly eliminated from the game and you feel confident in your victory. But then, you hear the sound of artillery shells striking your troops. Their source, your flanks. Then suddenly the opponent’s remaining cavalry charge into your troops. Since you fired on a cavalryman earlier, you are unable to respond to the attack. Your weak cannons are the first to go, then half of your infantry is eliminated. Your opponent marches the rest of their troops into the hills you once occupied and then rains fire upon you as you flee through the field you thought to be your opponent’s grave…
More Info:
Basically, the game I am thinking of making is a top down strategy board game style game. But, with in depth combat mechanics and a good amount of rp. Think chess, but more entertaining. For the base game I plan to have 3 classes, artillery, infantry and cavalry. Each will have some sort of formation buff as well as certain terrain penalties. There will be a turn based combat system where you are allowed to take one action with one piece per turn. Example, if you decide to order a soldier to fire their gun, they won’t be able to them move in the same turn. More features will be added in later updates like the ability to build forts.
My Opinion:
I personally think this is a great idea. I’m a huge fan of strategy games like chess and always wanted more complexity and game mechanics and I imagine there’s a group of people like me on Roblox who would love to play this type of game as well. Although, I don’t expect this game to get that high of a player count. Its mostly going to be for a niche audience. But I’m interested in what you guys have to say! Is this a good idea?
