I have recently released my game, Vestiges of Phlanange.
I worked on the game for 1 year+ and im looking for feedback to make sure it’s ready for release.
Point out any bugs, suggestions and problems in-game.
When i accidentally when to settings and deployed whilst in the tutorial and the tutorial stopped completely. I was on the part where it asked you to take the rock out of the inventory but it didn’t seem to be working at all when i tapped ot (I’m on mobile)
Sorry for the issues! I have fixed everything
Looks cool, you obviously put a lot of time into it and it shows. But the art could use some work.
Thank you for the feedback, ill make sure to look into it
I spoke to you in-game yesterday about a few things I noticed while playing. I’ve noticed a few more things that I will list below.
[-] When hovering over a tool you want to buy, you cannot see what that tool is called. For example, if you want to buy a lvl-2 keycard, you may accidently buy a lvl-1 keycard instead, since you can’t see what the tool you’re buying is called. I recommend making the name of the tool show up when your mouse is hovering over it. This will eliminate a lot of confusion.
[-] While playing the game, I have repeatedly crouched unintentionally while trying to roll. I very strongly recommend you change the hotkey for rolling to something like “Q.” It is quite annoying to try rolling and end up crouching instead.
[-] I recommend making the ore mining Billboard Gui also include what the ore is called. New players do not know which ores are which so it would be helpful if that were displayed in the gui.
[-] The backpack covers the player info bar when enabled (Bar that has the player’s profile image and health)
[-] I think it is very bizarre and confusing how some items you can get by talking to the npcs but others you can only get by clicking on the them. And the ones you get by just clicking on them do not provide any stats. Take for example the armor shop; why are all the armors not inside the npc shop? Why do I have to click on some of them but buy others from the npc? How do I know how good the armor that isn’t in the shop is? You get what I’m saying?
Just a few things I noticed. Just my personal opinion though.
I’ve noticed that the crouch animation isn’t really moving when you walk
Here are my first impressions when I first play this game as someone who forgot to read the description:
-
Ambiance is quite empty, but I believe that is probably the theme you are going for to match the lore. Maybe add some more deserted buildings to fill in the gaps.
-
Before I read the description, I wasn’t aware there are additional controls such as crouch and roll. Maybe you should incorporate them into the game to let players know that these controls serve a purpose.
-
Small suggestion, you can make one of the frames hide when another button from the menu is pressed, just for convenience.
-
Add some kind of quest/mission tracker, the first thing I thought of when I got out of the tutorial is that this game is simply mining and upgrading. I am aware that I was able to raid to earn more loot, but you should add another NPC that gives quests that will hint some kind of raiding/cool mission will appear.
-
Sound design is pretty good, but the sounds on the guns could be replaced… some of them sounded weird.
Note: I have completed the tutorial and have run into this base of some sort in the outskirts, but nothing much afterward. I definitely feel like there are efforts, but I can’t say for sure that this game is ready for release.
Must be an issue, i have a billboard GUI for those, ill look into it.
So, i have talked with my community and all of them prefer shift+C. Maybe disable crouching while running?
You are right, that may confuse some players and i’ll make sure to work it out
Thank you for all the feedback
I work as a solo developer, making good animations was never easy for me, specially movement. I will make sure to hire someone later on to improve that.
Alright, thanks for the feedback, wasn’t aware of that
Where could i list the controls in-game? I have though of that before but i’m not sure where they should be.
That was exactly what i needed. I’ve been seeing that most players leave after the tutorial and some aren’t sure on what to do. I’ll make sure to add quests and possibly a story mode as an extension of the tutorial
make custom shift run animation, because it doesn’t look well…
text on tutorial is honestly too big and use other font
I don’t really think there is a need for that, no one else complained about it
I agree and will make sure to work that out
That makes no sense, it’s to fit the game’s theme and i think it is fine
