Need feedback on my new Horror game!

So, I’ve been working on a Horror game recently (Called In the Dark) And I’ve never really made a game quite like this before so I wanted some feedback.
As the game gets closer to being completed I wanted to ask the community for their opinions on it.
Thanks In advance
Some basic questions to answer:

  1. Is the Story hard to follow or too disconnected/poorly designed?
  2. Are any game mechanics hard to understand or just hard in general?
  3. Is the monetization method poorly designed?
  4. Is the UI ugly or too bare-bones?
  5. Any other feedback

Here is the Game:

Thanks for telling me, Its fixed

I think that you may want to make it a bit clearer what to do, it may be just me, but when I started I walked around and opened everything. I finally went to the phone and continued with the story.
I think you should definitely improve the GUI a bit.
I am still in the middle of playing the game, but I am already spooked. I get scared easily so I don’t know if it would be good for me to keep playing
edit: I continued playing, I think the jumpscares are great, it startles me but its not so scary that I will have nightmares lol

Looks fun but im stupid and am too scared to play it after i got jumpscared at the start but looks good

I tried to join my friend in her server, I got in but couldn’t play after clicking play. Is this on purpose?

Yeah, It’s meant to be a singleplayer game. But i left it at 2 plrs for now so i could join and see how it was working. So this is supposed to be that way yes

Thanks
And yeah it’s pretty spooky so dont scare your self lool

Yeah, Alot of people have said it’s a bit unclear what to do there.
The gui is very rough too. Im not good at Gui design but I will try to remake it nicer
Glad to hear the jumpscares aren’t too terrifying (But still scary) XD

Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate you taking tine to review it

Thanks so much for your feedback and donating time to test it

I got my friend played because she isn’t as much of a scaredy cat

She said it was pretty fun, but she got confused when the game “randomly ended”
She also said that the jump-scares were just right startling her a bit lol

I can’t wait to play the game again when its finished! (I’ve been playing more horror games so I may be more help in the future!)

  1. I’m interested in the story and it makes sense. It also thrills me to see a single player, story driven horror game being made with passion on this platform because they aren’t really moneymakers.
  2. The Episode system is hard to understand. It is unclear when you are sent to the title screen that there are further episodes, maybe change “Play” to continue at that point? I’m also not sure how I’m meant to unlock the second episode. (I walked into the glowing doorway, in case that’s not the right way to go- but I have no way of knowing.
  3. I’m not sure if I could think of a better way than donations to monetize a game like this while keeping it free to play.
  4. It’s pretty bare bones but you seem to already be working on it.
  5. More feedback:
I was killed in the scene where “Daniel” comes to your door, and respawned at the point before you go to his apartment. It isn’t too long a gap to play back through even though I feel that a better ‘save point’ would be after falling into the pit, but I did want to say that on my second go at the Daniel’s apartment scene, all the previously opened cabinets were still open.
My biggest immediate feedback was to say the jumpscares are too loud. I have my roblox volume at the lowest and my computer volume at a regular place, but the sound effects are so loud that I had to have it nearly muted to keep playing. (I am using headphones) Since some of the game requires reliance on sound to tell when the monster is there, a player shouldn’t feel they have to mute the game.
It would be nice to have a quit to menu option so that you can switch episodes if you click the wrong one.

All in all I’m excited for this game and it’s the type of project I would love to some day work on myself. Please get back to me soon about how to unlock episode 2 because I would like to play it.

Glad to see you like the story
I think I’ll add a message after you complete an episode to tell you that you completed it and unlocked the next episode.
The glowing door is in episode two, So I think you mean episode three. I tried the game and all the unlocking of levels works. Episode three isn’t out yet so that’s why you can’t unlock it yet.
Yeah I only put donations because i hate adding transactions to my games.
Is the level or the gui bare-bones?
The respawn points I agree with, I’ll try to change the respawn but it might not work lol
All the cabinets being open is a bug lol, I will fix that.
I’ll change the jumpscare sound down a bit, I tried it and it is quite loud.
Are any other sounds to loud?
I’ll work on the quit menu button thing. That’s a good idea!
Thanks so much for taking time out of your day to give me feedback. It’s really helpfull cause as the dev I sometimes miss things and It’s different for the players so it’s helpfull when they tell me how the game is so far!

Oh, makes sense. In the episode select it showed the second one as “LOCKED” even though I had gotten that far.
The gui is pretty bare bones, but I think some of that can work for the genre with a little tweaking. What do you mean by the level, though?

I had a problem, I finally got the guts to play the game again, but there was someone else in the game so I couldn’t play. Maybe you should make the servers single player?

edit: you could also keep multiple people in a server and make a spectate mode, my friend being there to support me helps me lol

Wow! Very great game, well developed. Some tips: You can add more cool lighting, or… I dunno XD. And yeah, It scared me a lot when th- I won’t do spoiler lol. Another tip: Make an icon and a thumbnail for the game, that will do that the game looks better!
And… The last thing: It’s only one question. I saw that this last months a lot of people uses the same GUI for press E key detection, and I like it so much, it’s very great and It would be great using it on my game. How can I make this press E key detection? Thank you.
