What I need help with

Hey!

This is my first post on here so I don’t know how to do much, correct me if I did something wrong please.

I’m building a game based off of the anime, Sword Art Online [SAO], and I’ve been building the things in it for about a week now.

I just now had a question pop up as to what building style my game would be.

Low-poly, or realistic?

I originally wanted to make it realistic, but then some people without amazing computers wouldn’t be able to play it as I’m planning on making the maps the same size shown as in the Anime.

If I make it low-poly, it would throw players off in my opinion, because in the Anime it is quite realistic.

I’ve seen other SAO based games and the ones that are low-poly don’t seem to catch my interest.

Please, comment your opinion.

 -Thanks!

Are you willing to sacrifice quality for performance? You could set StreamingEnabled to true and go with the realistic style. Make sure that your memory usage is low if you want this to run on mobile devices. You should make your meshes low poly 100%, but this doesn’t mean you shouldn’t assign them materials or textures. Higher poly count means more memory usage.

Even realistic looking games on roblox can be optimized!

I would rather have higher performance, and I could definitely see low-poly looking good in the game. I’d need to get alot better at it though, because I’ve only done low-poly 2 or 3 times. I will definitely consider this as I want my game to be playable throughout any device, no matter the quality!

Think about how it will effect a Player’s device. Too realistic can cause ALL mobile players to crash and some medium ran PCs to lag. Low-poly on the other hand, can make a game run smoothly. But, I recommend putting in both into the game. But make sure it has great performance and a ‘Low Graphics’ ‘High Graphics’ option.

If I add lots of detail to the low-poly, to substitute for not being realistic, will it make the game preform worse though? And how would I go around making low-poly have a difference in Low Graphics and High Graphics?

Okay, you didn’t understand anything I said. When it comes to making a realistic game, lighting plays a role. And, lighting alone can effect the player’s device. Also, your decals and meshes and such. For that at a LG HG option. Lowering lighting effects and mesh details as an example. I don’t don’t find it hard trying to have both in the game.

I wish you the best of luck!
