Need help with game idea

I’m developing a game with a similar structure to Piggy, where players escape different maps over multiple chapters, but with a cartoony style instead of horror elements. The game will still feature key mechanics like puzzles, exploration, and cooperation, but without the dark, spooky atmosphere typical of escape horror games.

One of the elements I need help with is creating a non-horror character or bot that will chase players around the map. In Piggy, players are chased by creepy characters or bots, but in my game, I want this chaser to be something more lighthearted and fun, yet still provide a challenge.

I’m looking for creative ideas for the bot or character that will act as the “chaser” in the game. It could be an amusing character or creature that adds a fun twist, while still encouraging players to think strategically as they attempt to escape.

Here are some key points for inspiration:

  • Non-horror but challenging: The chaser should create tension but not scare the players.
  • Cartoony or quirky style: I want the chaser to fit within the whimsical, fun environment of the game.
  • Alternative to a scary bot: Instead of a terrifying figure, consider something silly, clumsy, or cartoonish.

Any ideas on what the chaser character could be or how it could function would be greatly appreciated!

Something like one of the ghosts from Pacman or slimer from Ghostbusters. Seems to suit a cartoon theme.

A bee.

A net on a pole. (Like a fishing net).

A swirling ball of electricity (with a load of particle emitters).

To add onto the bee idea if it is for a single level: You could make one of the levels a scaled down type of adventure where you and the players are shrinked and try to escape the map. Because you’re so small, any sort of living thing could be an enemy. That way the bee or any other insect-sized creature would feel like a natural enemy on that level
