Need help with retention

So I have a horror game which has 300 ccu, it has pretty bad retention rate because it’s a play to beat game basically once the player beat the game the only thing that will keep them going is grinding out the wins leaderboard and getting 10 wins for a shoes that give them speedboost for a faster run in the speedruns leaderboard

I wonder what should I do to make players keep coming back? (thus increasing retention rates)

I’m not sure what exactly your game is about, but from your post I assume it’s story-based. Here are some ideas:

Big changes:

  • Add new chapters! Having more core content will increase retention greatly.
  • Update the existing story with lore, graphics, new items, etc.
  • Add a multiplayer mode

Smaller changes:

  • Add rewards for ranking on the leaderboard
  • Create a Discord server for the game to create a close-knit community
  • Create a speedrun.com leaderboard for your game—even though the game has a built-in speedrun timer, speedrun.com will give the speedrunning community a sense of legitimacy and will foster competition
  • Host small events (such as seasonal updates) to encourage players to see what’s new and maybe get some new items

Of course, these aren’t all the things you could do. These are just the ones that I thought would be most helpful for retention. I’m sorry if this isn’t really applicable to your game at all, but I hope I’ve helped!!!

Best of luck!!!
