Need ideas for beach scene

I’ve just made this beach scene for my game, Tropical Resort Simulator, and i need some ideas to add. Right now it looks a little bland and empty. I’d like to adjust the lighting a bit, too, but i don’t quite know what i should change it to. (Keep in mind that this is very unfinished and lots of things like a city will be added, but for now just focus on the beach. Water is also animated!)

I also request help on how i should go about making map borders and fog, so players don’t see the ocean or sand simply end abruptly.

I don’t usually bump posts, but this got buried in the course of 20 minutes.

Pebbles, surfboards, lifeguard tower or maybe just little huts would be a good addition to make it slightly more livelier. Maybe try spreading the NPCs and their umbrellas across the beach as well? (Would probably scale the ocean/beach to be at the same level, or for the beach to slope down towards the ocean using a wedge)

So just using invisible parts then?

If you’re planning to use the Smoke, you may want to consider experimenting with ParticleEmitters and their transparency effect, since it’s slightly more flexible.

I know i should use invisible parts, but i want to know how i should model such, e.g a cliff or a large fence.

(P.S the beach does infact slope into the ocean  you can see it in the first image)

Like how you should model the border of the map realistically?

Sorry about that, I was viewing the 2nd image as well and didn’t notice

Yes.

look mom! im using lots of characters so i can reach the minimum limit!

Maybe cliffs/mountains would work in helping block the border of the map, according to a quick google search on beaches

Unless you want the ocean to be vast, I suggest going with a tall fence. You can then continue the ocean past the fence and fade it out with the smoke you mentioned. For the smoke, you could use ParticleEmitters like vapour said, or you could possibly edit the lighting (and such) to add fog.

Other ideas include:

  • Indents (have areas that stick out or form coves)
  • Beach rocks (areas of varying size that are made up of dark rocks) that could also stick out to form natural borders or interesting terrain
  • Driftwood/logs
  • Grassy spots with lush plants
  • Shells
  • Little water pools (which could even have narrow paths that lead into the ocean).

I also think that you could add a bit more variation to the trees. Maybe alternate colors between yellow-green and green, change sizes, add more leaves on some, add coconuts, and/or add groups of trees.

As for the general lighting, maybe make the outdoor ambient color a light, warm orange-yellow. Add depth of field for a hazy summer effect. You could also make the ocean reflective or glowy.

I hope that helps!

This beach scene looks nice, good job on it! It’s very basic though, you need more decorations like beach balls and chairs with some towels on the ground. Otherwise, it’s nice!

Hey! Thanks for your feedback. Changing some of the leaves’ colors definitely helped a lot, along with the lighting.

(P.S most trees have different sizes!)

@Liam_Hopalot, @HelpSupport01, Thank you guys so much! I’ve taken the advice of every reply and updated the map. It looks much better than before!

I’ll make sure to add more of your ideas.

Whats a beach scene without a nice sunset? Maybe use the plugin Celestial Body Dragger by Maximum_ADHD to drag the sun where you want for a photo, if thats what you’re aiming for.
